some people do jobs because they are good at them or like the work involved more than for associated prestige.

some rise in the ranks through competence more than ambition.

In what way will this happen? US Department of Education
Quote:
The primary functions of the Department of Education are to "establish policy for, administer and coordinate most federal assistance to education, collect data on US schools, and to enforce federal educational laws regarding privacy and civil rights."[13] The Department of Education does not establish schools or colleges.[14]

Unlike the systems of most other countries, education in the United States is highly decentralized, and the federal government and Department of Education are not heavily involved in determining curricula or educational standards (with the recent exceptions of the No Child Left Behind Act and the Common Core State Standards Initiative). This has been left to state and local school districts. The quality of educational institutions and their degrees is maintained through an informal private process known as accreditation, over which the Department of Education has no direct public jurisdictional control.

The Department's mission is: to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.[15] Aligned with this mission of ensuring equal access to education, the Department of Education is a member of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness,[16] and works with federal partners to ensure proper education for homeless and runaway youth in the United States.

The way it will happen, if her plans are implemented, is that more students will be steered towards a more religious-based education than a science-based education, exacerbating the fact that too many people are not able to figure out things like climate denial and intelligent design are bull****.

Yeah, but politics is about power (This is not a bad thing). So to be a good and competent politician does actual mean you know how power works and how it is used. Not saying Paul Ryan is a bad guy, or that he is power hungry but you dont get there buy not giving **** about power.

i think you are misrepresenting ****ty inner city public schools by calling them science based.

there's really very little education happening there at all, of any kind science or otherwise.

2 ways to get something, taking it or having it given to you.

not caring about the thing is how you get it given to you. Others share theres with you because they don't view you as a threat who will try and take more or someday later stab you in the back to get more.

Not conceding that point as stated, but even under that assumption, trying to do an end-run around the constitution's separation of church and state is not a good solution.

I think how bad this gets really depends on whether Trump relies more on Mattis/Tillerson or Flynn on foreign matters, and on everything else whether Ivanka/Jared or Bannon have more influence. So far it seems Flynn and Bannon have had much more influence. Flynn seems particularly terrifying. There are already reports of Flynn and Mattis butting heads over Pentagon appointments and Mattis threatening to quit.
Interesting to note that Mattis was not even technically eligible for the position and needed waivers from the House and Senate. (US law requires 7 years between military service and becoming Defense secretary, to support civilian control of the military.) Enough Democrats recognized we need SOMEONE sane in there.

students at Notre Dame are eligible for federal and state grants and scholarships just like the ones going to Indiana.

(insert any other overtly religious university or seminary or whatever they are called if you want more extreme examples)

I'm strongly of the belief that most things have two reasonable sides but the bathroom thing is one where there is only one side. If you support it you are too stupid and bigoted to be taken seriously on anything.

Is this going to be a new thing for the right, that every single poll is bull**** and should be ignored?

Something sure seems out of whack. The guy got an insane number of votes despite losing the popular vote. So something seems off on approval numbers. I could see 42-46% or something, but 32 seems crazy.

This will absolutely be the new norm.

Bad unemployment number comes out? The dishonest media not reporting all the jobs Trump saved, look at Carrier, Etc.

We still run big deficits? Lies, Trump is saving huge $ for the tax payers, look how much he saved on Air Force one and F35.
