Joy.
I say this with no sarcasm that this seems a perfectly reasonable policy. At the very least its a worthwhile bluff.

Not only is Trump stupid enough to think being President would be easier than what he did before, but he even stupider to actually say that out loud in an interview.

In a shock statement, Phil “The Poker Brat” Hellmuth has declared that he will run for the presidency in 2020.

Hellmuth called a press conference at in Las Vegas, where he was busy folding pre-flop in a high-stakes Hold’em game, to announce his bid.

“It’s clear that you don’t need political experience, a realistic manifesto or even a basic level of human decency and social skills to get into the White House,” Hellmuth said. “For that reason, and also because I lost a ton betting on Hillary, I am going to run for president in 2020.

“So yeah, **** it. Let’s go.”

What a treasure. In before Trumpkins demand everyone back off, Barack Obama got to put his feet up on the desk and had it easy, all this criticism is making Daddy's life harder, he has to focus on work right now, he can't play catch with you outside right now because all of this noise in here, maybe if you sit quietly for a few hours he can go out with you after dinner.

The authoritarian impulse will rise to Trump's defense here, put on their best non-ironic Scooby Doo villain voice and say Trump's job should be easier if we all loved America like him, if all these meddling teens would stop bothering him, stop being so nosy and critical. The knee jerk defense of Trump's hilarious self-admitted naivete is going to simply be that Trump always had wisdom and expected a challenge but did not anticipate so many traitors and obstinacy on the road to Making America Great Again.

This is weird. The State Department, which never talks, has asked Nikki Haley to get clearance from them before making certain comments.

Quote:
The State Department is reportedly urging U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley to get her remarks cleared with Washington before making official public statements.

According to The New York Times, an email drafted by State Department diplomats asked Haley's office to rely on pre-written "building blocks" when preparing for her remarks.

The email maintained that her comments should be "re-cleared with Washington if they are substantively different from the building blocks, or if they are on a high-profile issue such as Syria, Iran, Israel-Palestine, or [North Korea]."
Strange how Russia isn't mentioned at all when her comments have been strictest against them.

Aside from making a big splash in the news, is there any upside to Trump's idiotic comments on major war with NK or how easy he thought presidenting would be? If it's gotten harder for him to manipulate the media without looking like a complete tool, well that'd be somewhat comforting.

It's also become easier for D's, moderate R's, and other countries to ignore Trump's bluster as it's clear he's bluffing whenever he talks big (see the NYT article that was linked to about Mexico recognizing he's a bluffer).

Actual quote from a right-wing message board I peak at from time to time:

Quote:
Learning that there may be another one or two SCOTUS picks in the next few years should be sound relief to the conservative leaning folks of America. I don't care of the President takes a dump on the WH lawn and goes full Howard Hughes crazy. We dodged a major bullet this election.
It's flat out depressing how determined Trump voters are in finding ways to ignore his faults.

The problem is he is probably actually just mentally unhinged moron who is convinced by whoever he last talked to. Rather than assuming say for instance his threat to pull out of NAFTA was a calculated bluff, it's far more likely he probably talked to Bannon then caught some bull**** story linking NAFTA to immigrant gangs on Fox and Friends and demanded the NAFTA pull out EO drawn up before Priebus and Ross and Mnuchin got into his office and told him he can't.

Counting on the fact he's always bluffing is probably going to get us all blown up one of these days. Rather than treating him like a loose-weak player, I think he probably is better just seen as the drunk maniac and play accordingly.

This guy is 100% correct and it illustrates how stupid the left is by essentially ignoring the SCOTUS. Even the most successful presidents serve terms a fraction the length of those on the court.

SCOTUS is insanely important and for some reason only the right seems to get this.

How is the left ignoring SCOTUS? What else could they have done?

Like if someone laid odds that the WH staff has some informal, unwritten but very serious, critical agreement that a rotating staff of McMaster, Preibus, Ross, Mattis, Coats or Mnunchin and maybe a few of the other non-******s have to be within a 5 minute walk of Trump at all times of the day to prevent him from doing something catastrophic, I'd take the bet at like even money. Something like that has probably developed.

First 100 days. Never forget.

MSNBC just did a quick 100 days in 360 seconds montage that was pretty decent. Amazing how much crazy **** happened and how little actually got done.

The right funds advertising, stacks the lower courts, has entire NGOs dedicated to placing SCOTUS nominees. They have an entire infrastructure. The left has nothing like this. Add to this the rights base comes out to the polls for SCOTUS while the lefts does not.

iirc there was a yuge Draft Wesley Clark movement back then, but I think he made a series of hilarious gaffes and quickly lost popularity and never was a contender

And the DNC literally did change its leadership recently and then completely cleaned house.

Pretend the left did have all of this: What would change when Obama nominated someone to replace Scalia?

Go watch the movie Being There and then get back to us. This whole Trump thing is like the bad sequel to that movie, though I do feel that Peter Sellers would do an amazing job of playing him, if he were still alive.

Just want to say how proud I am of our resident #neverTrump Republicans who, after witnessing three months of staggering incompetence and idiocy, have come around and decided that Trump is actually just fine or maybe even pretty good (Lou notwithstanding, though he probably has some esoteric financial objection to Trump rather than a philosophical once). I defended Rara in the past as a northeastern Republican but I was wrong and Fly, Clovis, Dids and everyone else was right - anyone who hasn't wholeheartedly denounced Trump and this clown show of an administration can be ignored and ideally crushed in future elections if we ever want to have a better country and world. At least awval and Inso0 outed themselves as spineless, selfish crybabies while the election was going on

There are no real Never Trumpers. Just Democrats and white nationalists.

Someone explain to me simply why some countries cant have/arent allowed to have nuclear weapons?
I expect the answer not to be along the lines of:because nuclear proliferation is bad, said countries want to strike USA n1,only USA can tell who is allowed to do what.
What is the basis (I dont know how to formulate it,ethics?legal? idk) to forbid some countries (iran,NK etc...) to obtain nuclear weapon?
