Damn LEAKS! Don't forget Pelosi and Schumer. They spoke to a Russian once, which is clearly the same thing.

a winning democratic candidate for president would run on a platform including seizing mar-a-lago and converting it into his presidential library, making it free and open to the public forever, maybe paying the market value that it was worth prior to the russians getting him elected, as determined by me, to be completely tacky and valueless. zero dollars. in fact all his properties that he's continued to own while president constitute illegal earnings and i'd have to direct my AG to take them via civil forfeiture laws until we figure out how we handle the treason charges because NO WAY should he be able to pump up the value of his ****ty properties using the power of the presidency (illegal) and get his kids to benefit from it, which is probably his whole plan anyway he's an old af grandpa

The key proposal Congress is reportedly looking at treats all 401(k) contributions as if they were Roth contributions. That would take away upfront tax benefits in exchange for making earnings and appreciation tax-free going forward. By doing so, the federal government believes it could raise $1.5 trillion in additional tax revenue over the next decade, providing an ample source of funding for tax cuts elsewhere.

An even bigger threat could come from measures to change the tax-deferred nature of 401(k)s. Right now, any income and gains your 401(k) generates don't get taxed until you make withdrawals. But one proposal would impose a 15% tax on annual gains within 401(k) plans. For long-term stock investors, that could put 401(k) plans at a disadvantage to simple taxable accounts, where one can defer capital gains tax simply by not selling shares. Proponents of the measure suggest that the move would raise between $48 billion and $60 billion in annual tax revenue between 2018 and 2025.

But in the case of Clinton it is clear that many of those who didn't like her but hated Trump felt inclined to answer the question without worrying that declining to choose Clinton could make Trump president. In other words everyone knows that much of that other 17% would switch back to Clinton in a real election, and therefore should realize that the results of the paper's poll was spurious.
Alarm bells were definitely going off in my head as I read that conclusion. No issue with Trump supporters holding firm, but a lot of lukewarm Clinton supporters are clearly distancing themselves from the loser and bull****ting in their responses. And I don't see any accounting for non-voters who might alter the outcome in retrospect either, given the prevailing idea that it was a near lock for Clinton and there was nothing to worry about. I wonder what the Bernie supporters' answers looked like.

I remember a couple of articles a few years back regarding polls demonstrating support for the war in Iraq. At the time public support polled at something like 70 percent, but 10 years later you could only get about half of them to admit it. So, whatever I guess.

Yup, just absolutely kill the ability of the middle class to save anything while further enriching our royalty.

And if they do this, nobody is going to trust that Roth contributions actually remain tax free. They will just become another grab for the rich 20 years from now.

No one gives a ****, and it doesn't matter. You post in support of Trump on the Internet. Being confused as a Trump voter rather than merely a Trump supporter is the cost of doing business.

They should just pass a law that every middle class person write out a check to a .01%er at the end of the year. Much simpler to administer.

Pretty nasty possibility on the 401k. Thankfully it's not a huge part of my retirement roll at this point (there was only about a 10-year stretch where I got an typical employer match).

But what else is new? Pretty standard GOP play in their continuing effort to concentrate wealth up top. Sucks for a lot of people though forgive me if I have little sympathy for the ones who keep voting for it.

The reporting on that 401k thing, while very scary if it comes to pass, is shaky and I wouldn't treat it seriously without more specific sourcing attached.

The insane thing is that is what 401ks replacing pensions already are, the fees that they get to charge people in 401ks are much higher than what a giant institutional pension would be able to be charged.

And even that isn't good enough.

"Class warfare" is such a weasel term, because it only gets applied when we fight back.

Taxing 401k accounts, especially on unrealized gains (wtf?) is political suicide. I hope.

I'm looking for something more concrete on it and finding little. I don't really do Motley Fool and haven't looked at USA Today seriously since the late 80s when they used to give it to us in homeroom at school

I liked the little box in the corner with the graphs and polls

We have inmates shooting up heroin and smoking synthetic marijuana in max security prisons, but somehow this lame wall is going to solve the drug problem.

We should all ask Riverman very nicely to stay out of this one.
