CNN did/does the straight news thing with the Headline News channel. The fact that I don't know whether that's still on the air tells you what you need to know.

Last I checked, HLN was devoted to Nancy Grace breathlessly covering the latest celebrity scandal.

I think the model we should be looking for is BBC News.

@DPRK_News isn't fake at all. have they made some mistakes? of course they have, the marshal doesn't run the account personally so mistakes are possible. the real story here is HILLARY CLINTON russia emails collusion!

"As soon as the White House stops lying, we'll stop covering the lies. It's Donald Trump's responsibility, not ours, to make sure most of the lies are not about Russia."

Agreed, but that middle ground is a lot closer to 30 minutes than 24 hours. A good example: nightly local news shows, which only have to fill an hour (or 44 minutes without commercials) not only spend time on the national and international news but ALSO have the luxury on reporting on local stuff like weather, the local high school bball team, etc. And they STILL end up doing fluff to fill the hour, like how some dog saved a drowning kid.
