As an aside, in the interest of full disclosure, I do have a financial interest in the "Store" section of that website, but earn no free pennies by you clicking the link.

I'm no gun expert, but this seems like an implausible story.

http://blog.chron.com/newswatch/2012...woman-is-shot/

Quote:
A 24-year-old woman was killed in an accidental shooting when her brother dropped the gun he was carrying in south Houston on Saturday evening, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. at a home in the 4600 block of Kingsbury. The woman’s brother was carrying a semi-automatic handgun into the house and was near the doorway when the pistol slipped out of its holster, Houston Police Department Homicide investigator Bart Oxspring said.

When the gun hit the ground, it discharged one time, striking the man’s sister, who was standing outside a few feet away, in the face, Oxspring said.

It's highly unlikely, but entirely possible with a cheap ass gun and a worn out cheap holster.

the cops can tell if that story is true.

they'll look for gun powder residue on his sleeves, they'll look at where the bullet came from, etc. if it's not true they can figure it out. at least according to all the cop movies i've seen.

ummm yeah IM trying to think of any semi auto pistols that are not drop safe... unless it was say a 1911 without the thumbsafety engaged or maybe some of the super cheap **** like a Jimenez.

more like he dropped it and tried to catch it,and pulled the trigger, or he flat out shot her on purpose.

ETA: some will fire if they land straight on the muzzle... but that would make it shoot into the ground.

My dad dropped his 1911 on a chair and put a bullet through the floor. Moral of the story, don't be an ******* and drop loaded guns.

are there any ebay type places online to buy used pistols?
06-21-2012 , 09:18 AM
gunbroker.com

People have to ship to an FFL, but they also have a directory of FFLs they can ship to. I bought two guns, had them both shipped to some guy's house, who happens to hold a Federal Firearm License and just does these types of transfers on the side for some extra cash.

Be very careful when using gunbroker.com. Ebay is very good about buyer protection but gunbroker isn't.

Came across this slow motion video of the sights on a guy's Open gun. Almost makes me want to move to Open.

I sent in my application for an AZ CCW permit 7 weeks ago. It finally came back today . . . returned because I used a personal check instead of a money order. Hope I don't have to wait another 7 weeks.
06-22-2012 , 05:49 PM
I didn't know you needed an AZ permit.
06-22-2012 , 05:53 PM
Common misconception. Although you don't need a permit to carry concealed in AZ, there are exceptions that lead to 3 reasons for people to get permits.

1) you can't carry in an establishment that serves alcohol. This covers pretty much every restaurant except fast food;

2) you can't carry within 1000 feet of a school. If you live in a residential area, you're within a 1000 feet of a school a lot.

3) reciprocity. You still need a CCW permit if you want another state to recognize your permit. For Arizonans, each of its neighboring states (except California, of course) recognize the AZ CCW permit.

Just saw this in the LoL forum and figured it needed to be posted here too:

Reminds me of this classic:

I wouldn't waste your time with gunbroker. Just about everyone grossly overvalues their guns on there. Occasionally you can find a good deal, but it seems to be a rarity nowadays. Then factor in $25 S/H and in the area of another $25 for your transfer fee and you aren't getting any kind of a deal.

I was looking at Mosins on there earlier and round receivers are going for $130.. WTF is that. Classic has them for 89, or you can find them locally for under $100 all day just about anywhere.
