They actually look a bit different. Instead of the top section/half being plain ivory, the whole thing is engraved with a weave. Looks really cool and am really happy with them.

I got them from Esmerelda. She makes some really cool exotic wood grips. It was a tough choice between these and a few others on there, but my love for Norse mythology ended up being the deciding factor.

There are some great looking grips on that site, but the site cracks me up! I love how Esmerelda has photos posted in a bikini, low cut shirt and a provocative halter top. The horse picture cracks me up, too. She's trying to look like a cowgirl wandering the desert, but the horse is tied to a post!

Not to take anything away from her grips. That other stuff just makes me laugh.

If you want to go that direction, why not go all the way? The gun you're interested in is a GLOCK clone. Just buy a GLOCK.

Made me chuckle too, but I didn't really care. Her grips come with high praise.

yeah once Glock learns to make triggers this will become an option.

Once Glock learns to make guns that don't feel like plastic children's toys it may become an option.

I felt the same way until I smarted off to the wrong Glock rep one day and he smirked, yanked his personal firearm from his hip unloaded it and handed it to me saying "break it, then".

That day I shot it with other guns, ran over it with a car several times, dragged it behind a car and generally beat the hell out of it the rest of the time.

When I got done, he took it, loaded his gun, pointed it downrange and emptied the magazine.

Then he emptied a second mag just to show everyone it wasn't a fluke.

I became I die hard Glock believer that day.

It is for this reason that Esmeralda personally selects the choice cocobolo and puts it through a stringent drying regimen. This involves steam drying kilns, air drying and then her own microwave drying technique.
hmm

The point wasn't that they aren't great guns; they are. Some people just don't like the way they look and feel, which is admittedly superficial, but people can't really help what they don't like.

Personally I am a Sig fan, entirely because of the controls. I have two Spanish made knock-offs of the P226 and I love them.

I'm just partial to Glock. If you're not comfortable with the trigger, I can see that as a legitimate reason to not buy one.

Personally, I prefer a well setup 1911 trigger, however, I'm not willing to sacrifice all the reliability I'd have to give up with my Glock to get that 1911 trigger.

yeah I know what you mean, and yeah I am a 1911 guy so..... if I carried for work like you do I would likely have a Glock or similar but most likely an HK. I still regret selling my USP40.

I really don't understand people that prefer 1911 style controls. So much unnecessary complication.

To me, the 1911 is the most natural feeling pistol in the world. The problem is, it's also a finicky POS that requires unending maintenance and constant cleaning.

But when it works, it's the most beautiful thing in the world.

what precisely do you find so complicated? the grip and/or thumb safety?

do you really like the decocking lever that much?

I'm by no means hating on Sig Sauer, I like my P220 quite a bit (picture included because there are not nearly enough pics of firearms in this thread), but the 1911 is superb.

imo most people just love the 1911 single action trigger.

to say that you're selling the 1911 design short would be a gross understatement.

I agree with this whole heartedly. The problem imo is reliability. There is a reason that the 1911 design so thoroughly dominates the competition market. They're also amazing guns for the firing range, etc.

I love shooting 1911's like no other. But would I bet my life on one? Would I put my life on the line that if I pulled it from a holster, flicked that safety off and pulled that trigger that it would go bang until the magazine emptied?

Not a chance in hell.

wasn't mean to be a slight to the 1911.

i only shoot recreationally (I gather from other posts in this thread that you might be LE or something), but I've always had the impression that a well-maintained 1911 was a fantastically reliable pistol. I've personally never experienced any failures with mine, but I've not yet put many thousands of rounds through it.

I have had 1 misfire out of around 2000 rounds on the pistol I have now and 1 stovepipe jam out of my old one that got stolen. The misfire was w/ WWII era ammo

?? plz explain what you mean by complicated.
11-28-2009 , 11:00 AM
I believe Boro thinks that a safety on a gun is pointless. So that makes the gun, what, 33% too complicated...

wat

Have you seen a 1911?

You click off the manual safety and pull the trigger.

If it's been cleaned that morning, hasn't encountered any dust or dirt since the cleaning, the feed ramp has been polished and the magazines are seated properly and don't need to be replaced, it may fire.

However, if the extractor is feeling lazy, or the ejection port doesn't feel like playing today, you'll get a stovepipe jam.

When this happens, you'll simply tap the magazine, clear the jam, and pray for rain, then pull the trigger again.

What could be simpler?
