Taso, the WASRs are notoriously crappy I'd recommend not buying one from some rando on the internet, at least buy from a professional merchant or something.

its incredibly complicated Fly, because I'm a New Yorker trying to buy a gun in Pennsylvania. So my purchasing options are kind of strange.

But, I'll be able to check it out before I give him the cash. The Romanian WASRs have three problems (if they do, some don't): the front sight is canted on some of them, the mag well leaves too much wobble on the mag, and the bolt gets stuck back in use. I've asked the guy I'm meeting up with if his has any of these problems (to avoid me wasting my time driving to the FFL), and he said no, though there is very slight mag wobble (which is standard, afaik).

But ya, if I was buying without touching, I'd be more concerned. But actually, I was originally going to buy from a professional merchant on teh internets, but if the gun arrived and I didn't like it, it'd cost a lot of money for them to replace it (I'd have to pay for shipping, plus another federal license transfer).

I assumed you were buying these off gunbroker and getting it shipped, if it's an in person sale carry on. Also LOL NY.

I guess I just didn't know I could reload an empty mag.

Someone needs to take Iron to the pistol range.

??? because people in movies and games throw them away? i guess I can see why you would think that, but no you save & reload your mags.

Wait, iron, are you being serious? Did you really think bullets were sold prepackaged as loaded magazines?
10-18-2009 , 11:03 PM

It's unfortunate that so many hunters are lazy tree-stand sitters or just plain road hunters which results in comments like these. If hunting was about waking up early to sit and hope animals came near me, I'd never do it. Thankfully I live in the West where I get to hike deep into the backcountry to find game.

About lever actions, I'm thankful to own a Winchester Model 94 chambered in 30-30. It's such a beautiful gun I really should make it a safe queen, but it's also such a great timber rifle that I just have to take it with me when I go out.
10-19-2009 , 02:11 PM
How do you like the sights on the Winchester? It's tough to put a scope on those, correct?
10-19-2009 , 02:20 PM
You'd have to use a side scope unless you own one of the angle eject models like the '94 Compact. Ironically the iron sights for that model are more adjustable than mine. I wouldn't mount a scope on mine as it takes away from that classic feel. I only own one long gun without a scope which makes it a bit more special I suppose.

my attempts at selling my mini 14 are going extremely poorly.

The amount of people who PM me and say "I'm interested in buying, where are you located?", and then I respond "PA", and they never get back to me, is extremely disturbing.

Like, do they think I'm going to live in the same state as them? We have a modern world where we can ship things for very little money. WTF.

grrrrrr
I'm mostly just mad because if I tried to sell it a month earlier it would have flown out of my hands.
10-24-2009 , 01:07 PM
how much are you asking for it
10-24-2009 , 01:11 PM
too much imo. $850, because its got about $250 worth of upgrades in it. Butttt, when people think about a Mini 14 they usually think ~$500. But making it even more problematic is that its not a regular mini 14, its the new NRA version with the 16 inch thicker barrel, which costs more than an ordinary mini 14. So, ya, as I've been explaining, the rifle costs about $750 new, or something like that, and its got a bunch of upgrades (stock bedding, trigger job, a few other things) that cost about $250.
