Hell I've had my car unlocked on accident for numerous times (realized auto beeper lock thingy stopped working) and no incidents.

Many of my friends own for hunting, but I can't think of anything more boring than waking up really early to sit and hope animals come around for me to kill.
I'm guessing it's a nice neighborhood then. Funny story I have. One of the times in my life if I had a gun it could've saved a friend and my self from being carjacked and losing a lot of stuff in the process. You may ask, how the hell is that related to my situation? Well, we were in a nice low crime area when we got robbed. Why rob someone in a poor area when they probably don't have much. Robin Hood style ftw, ldo!

Just because you're safe in your bubble, doesn't mean the potential isn't there that one day you may need to protect your family. A cheap investment that pays dividends like no other if/when you use it!

well, all this AK talk is very convincing, but, NY has a gun ban and one of the guns banned is the AK. Not really a problem, but I do a lot of transporting from Philly to NY, and I'd hate to get pulled over in NY with that in my car.

I need to up my winrate so I can buy my LWRC in 6.8mm....

Just thinking about that gun makes my dick hard...

6.8 is so tempting for me too, but its such an expensive round. gun-deals.com has it at around .95/round, iirc, but it is Hornady. Does it go for cheaper than that?

Not by much. I think you can get some a few cents cheaper/rnd, but I'm not positive.

First off, if by "NY" you mean "New York State" then the pictured gun (AK) is entirely legal to own. I live in NY.

If by NY you mean "New York City" then I don't believe there's ANY sort of gun you can take, except maybe a black powder gun, which the law often doesn't consider to be a "real gun." Hint: check NYC laws before you take black powder guns there. Don't rely on me. I do know that in NYS the AK, as pictured, is legal.

If you are driving FROM somewhere TO somewhere, and in both places your gun is legal, then federal law supersedes any local gun bans. You are permitted to travel with whatever gun, wherever you're going so long as it's legal at your origin and at your destination. I think you have to have it locked up w/ammo separate though if you're in "hostile territory."

So if you want an AK like that, then go ahead and buy one.

I was referring to NYS.

Any AK model is banned, afaik?

I have a strong interest in owning a gun but I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder once, and once is the number of times I will be able to contemplate shooting myself if I actually had a firearm as opposed to the hundreds of these contemplations I have enjoyed previously.

Here's my idea of the perfect weapon just in case it all goes to hell.

Ruger 10/22 with many 75 round clips. Very well made gun will go 4-ever without problems in any conditions. You can carry 1000's of rounds in your pocket. Try carrying a few thousend rounds of 7.62 rounds and see how far you get.

and i'm worried about take down power with my 5.56 :P

They jam a bit.

Not that it isn't an easy or quick fix, but js...

Its hard to find reliable hicap magazines for 10/22. The only reliable 25 round mag I have found is made by Butler Creek. If you know of a reliable 75 round 10/22 mag, let me know, I will buy one.

Hey, first time to this thread.

Own a Remington Express Tactical 12ga shotgun 6rd mag tube with a reciever side saddle that carries 6 additional rounds.
I feed 1oz 1560 fps slugs and OOO buckshot (eight 9mm pellets) through it.

I skimmed the link you posted and don't see anything indicating there is a ban on AK's.

Seriously, they're legal. On page 3 of that link, you'll see what is banned - the rifle must have a detachable magazine (the AK DOES have one) and have 2 of the "evil" qualities on their laundry list of assault weapon features.

The only one that the AK has is a "pistol grip that protrudes..."

So your run of the mill AK with a wooden stock is A-OK. You can find them in any gun store and you'll see them at almost any busy range since they're incredibly popular.

Note though that there are guns built on the AK platform that you can buy in other states that have a folding stock, and possibly even a flash suppressor, but such guns would be illegal here in NYS, because a folding or telescoping stock is another one of the evil features found on "assault" weapons.

So, pistol grip + detachable mag = you're OK.
Detachable mag + pistol grip + folding stock = you're a criminal

I NY?????

Look just under the part you were describing, it says:

Quote:
• Any of the weapons, or functioning frames or receivers of such
weapons, or copies or duplicates of such weapons, in any caliber,
known as:
• Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs
(All Models);

I could be misreading it, though? If you've seen them in stores, I'm inclined to believe the website is wrong.

Such a Card,

I've done some investigating and you're pretty much right. The NRA law website is wrong - the AK 47 specific ban is only for NYC as you said, but the NRA site doesn't mention that.

However, as with any other gun, having a capacity mag over 10 rounds is illegal unless it was made prior to 1994 when the NYS assault ban went into place. The guy I'm in touch with sells Romanian WASR AKs with 1950s mags for $600. I'm thinking about getting it.

(I'm aware that the mag law isn't well enforced (because its about impossible), but I'd still prefer my weapon be totally legal if I ever have to use it in self defense/whatever (until I get a hand gun, which might be possible with the left over money after I sell my Mini 14 and get the AK))
09-29-2009 , 01:45 AM
zomg YESSSSSSS

I have like 10 mags for my AK and all of them are preban. I would say most of the non-plastic AK 30 round mags you find anywhere are pre 1994. They have made so many of them, you will have absolutely no problem finding pre 1994 AK mags...
