Is Randian like Ayn Rand or someone else? I've heard the term before and don't know.

Just about every major republican strategist had come out at one point and said Ryan would be one of the worst picks for Romney. Somehow the consensus (at the least in the media) this past week+ has been, just pick him any way because you already backed his nutty budget.

This just makes it even easier for Democrats from a strategy perspective imho.

re: Paul Ryan will be the GOP VP running mate for Romney per NBC.

Obama and democrats have been using smoke and mirrors in order to not discuss the budget for 3 1/2 years. The senate hasn't even passed a budget in over 3 years. It is not an issue that they want to discuss substantively.

With Ryan as the VP pick there will be no hiding by either side now. The republicans are apparently interested in making this a big discussion this campaign.

These are serious times economically and the petty games and old tricks aren't going to cut it this time around. Time to put all ideas on the table and see who wins. Democrats haven't exactly been clamoring to have this fight. We will see.

re: Paul Ryan will be the GOP VP running mate for Romney per NBC.

The notion that Paul Ryan is "fiscally serious" or whatever meme Republicans have put out is a total joke. Dude wants to raise defense spending ffs. Trying to center the campaign around the budget isn't going to work, because nobody outside of people that were already going to vote for Romney takes Paul Ryan remotely seriously. Plus "he wants to take money away from poor people and give it to defense contractors" could be a good attack that will resonate with people, since he wants to gut the **** out of welfare to achieve those military spending increases.

I think this fundamentally wrong. Modern elections in the US are about getting the people who very much prefer you or despise the other guy to take the effort to vote.

In addition....I haven't bothered to look at any data but I can see Paul doing better than the other possible VP options with white women...a demographic Romney has to improve upon to win. All in all, I think it's a good pick politically....prob not as good as Palin, but Romney doesn't have to gamble as much as McCain did.

You can't be serious. Palin was only a good pick for the first day and that's because no one knew a thing about her. As soon as she opened her mouth she became the worst VP pick in history.

To be fair, she was good from the day the pick was announced/leaked through her speech at the convention. It wasn't until after the convention that things started going downhill.
