Re: Official Gary Johnson Discussion Thread

I'm not sure that the media talking about the issues I just mentioned will get people to vote for him seeing as they're basically the opposite of GOP stances.

A news site that appeals to liberals (like CNN) talking about his liberal positions will appeal to their readers and likely help him in the general if he were to get there. And it could easily help him in the primaries with Dems/liberals switching to the GOP just to vote for him.

Interesting that he gets attention from HuffPo before Drudge. It only highlights his position on cutting spending though, which is standard marginalization to be expected from this rag.

It's all about the message with this guy. The more media exposure the better

He surely has a better chance than RP did. He'll make a strong run with the libertarian friendly Republicans (not all of them are gay-bashing warmongerers afraid of Mexicans), but he probably falls short. He has a decent shot of making a dent, and fracturing his opponents supporters through a few different candidates running should help.

Surely? What odds would you lay that he'll get more delegates than RP did in '08?

Having more delegates doesn't mean having better odds of getting somewhere. I don't know if GJ is message driven or running to try to win. If he is just trying to win, he will drop out well before the point RP did, because RP didn't care if he was going to win or not.

Okay. How do you quantify someone's "odds of getting somewhere"?

Campaign website: http://www.garyjohnson2012.com/

He's gonna need a combo of media attention and campaign ads to get the name recognition he lacks, as obv that's his biggest weakness.

First step: show up to the May 5 debate in SC.
Some money bombs would also be very useful.

Google Trends of Ron Paul vs Gary Johnson: http://www.google.com/insights/searc...y%201-m&cmpt=q

funny that the only one of the big 3 cable news channels with a GJ article on their website's front page is the 'liberal' MSNBC.

I've never before volunteered for any campaign, nor have I ever voted Republican in the general, but I've already signed up to make calls for this guy. I think it's my perspective as a disenchanted Democrat voter that makes me so excited about this guy - and there are a ton of us.

This is a good point. There at least was some reason for Democrats to vote in the Democratic Primary last time. This year, it's a forgone conclusion, and lots of time for them to register as Republicans (if needed), or just show up and vote Republican.

I'd say the peak intrade value might be the best shot.
