The heros of Day #1 were (1) our Jewish community, (2) Americas Finest SDPD, and (3) us 99ers. At around 4pm we started our not so little parade. Everyone was in the mood to take to the streets and -- just have positive fun. I really can't stress enough how much fun this is! As I predicted, the SDPD facilitated this exercise of our rights to assemble and speak, blocking off traffic and the trolley for our convenience and safety.

The parade had all sorts of people, and what was surprising was the age spread, from children to 100 year oldies. The median age was much older than I would have imagined. Our placeholder message is "to achieve economic and social justice". But the number one chant was "We got sold out, Banks got bailed out!" -- except when we passes a bank, when it changed to "Shame <inert name> Bank!" Surprisingly, the number one leafleters were Puallites, and fellow travelers of the wingnut brigade, whose message is "Shut down the Fed"! I gotta kick outta asking them if they were in favor of a Seattle-1999 style NV barricade around the "THE FED" to actually physically shut them down... and watching their heads x-pload. Bottom line -- people really hate the banking industry.

Our parade went up to the Civic Center for a short rally and to collect all those who had assembled there. We left the Civic Center a little after 5PM, which to me was the most important thing. AFAIK our fellow 99ers who are celebrating Yom Kippur were not disturbed. BTW, our Jewish community stands in solidarity with our occupation, and has generously offered to print signs for us. My favorite chant here "End the wars by Occupation!"

We then paraded back to Children's Park, which was quickly filled with campers and tents. There was a second ad-hoc parade (not part of OSD) for us red and black flag folks, which once again the SDPD facilitated by blocking traffic for us. By the time we got back, some solidarity pizzas were being served. The mood on the streets here is joyful.

Today, we get to have another parade, as we move our camp from Children's Park to the Civic Center. Start time is at 4pm from the park (Front & Island, Convention Center trolley stop) to the Civic Center (2nd & C, Civic Center trolley stop). GA is at 7pm. Please, come down and join us, I promise you it will be fun!

i personally think its pretty awesome.
This. It can be tedious at times. But when I was watching the #occupywallstreet feed and it was 3 echoes deep (if that makes sense) I was kind of inspired.

IDK, about maybe 50% of the park was occupied by tents and campers. Tonight is when we'll see, after we move our camp to the Civic Center. I'm am predicting a much bigger parade today, and the public spaces of the Civic Center to be completely packed. I am also predicting several folks from our Jewish community will stick around after Yom Kippur, and join us at sunset.

Are you going on the parade? PM me if you wanna meet up.

That "unifying message" and "list of proposals" angle the msm anchors are scratching their heads about is meant to discredit and detract attention.

No corporation making any money wants to see a more politicized populace. They don't want you to do anything but vote. If their was such a thing as a unified corporate voice, than it's message surely is/was "nothing to see hear" and is evolving into "they're just dead beats."

For all those who feel a need to participate than by all means participate. Sure it's composed of groups of people with differing/ conflicting goals (which is TOTALLY unavoidable) but if you look back at history you'll see thats never ever mattered when it came to overcoming particular struggles.

Estimated 1500 people for the SD protest

I may try to make it down next weekend. Too busy with family stuff this weekend but definitely stoked at the support the protests are getting in SD. I've never really been proactive about any of this stuff so I should get out there.

Oh no, this is surely going to end in martial law and U.N. troops.

One big thing people could do is to start voting independent. The two party system has to go to weed out corruption.

Srsly what would you be doing right now if it were the sixties? Would you be praising MLK and the like or ranting about them black panthers? For every screwball there ranting about jews, you should ask yourself why those other people are there. Those not so crazy ones that your throwing under the bus because of something called free speech.

You know that protest chant:

What do we want?
____
When do we want it?
NOW!

You guys should try and start one to see what happens.

Are there any hot babes at these things? I just quit my job so I have some free time, but I'm only interested if I have a decent chance to get laid by a 6+ non-fatty.
