pretty sure that had nothing to do with free speech or being black and everything to do with being a school teacher who hates jewish people.

I hear she is available if you need a Tudor for your kids.

Here is some text from the segment for your narrow mind...

It used to be that the plan for getting old comfortably in America had three pillars -- your pension, your savings and Social Security.

Pensions: As Rachel explained last night on the show, pensions are on their way out. They're being replaced by 401k's, in which ordinary workers get tax breaks for gambling their money on Wall Street, to Wall Street's advantage.

Savings: Americans have essentially stopped saving money. With interest rates so low, you can't grow money by leaving it in the bank; the incentive is to gamble it on Wall Street.

Social Security: Republicans continue talking about overhauling Social Security, sometimes as personal investment accounts that mean more gambling on Wall Street, sometimes just as a Ponzi scheme that can't be counted on.
...plus there's charts and stuff

For poker related slogans I'd try something with "fair deal"

"The government took away my right to play poker
How about a fair deal"

You don't know what free speech is.

I assume the Hank Williams jr. situation means there's no free speech for country singers?

Re: Occupy Wall Street: Solidarity Thread for 2+2ers

not bad. Speaking of iPhones, data came out today that states an iPhone 4s 16Gb cost $188 to produce.

How much would this cost go up if the US's most profitable technology company decided to actually manufacture their product in the states, rather than just proudly slapping the Cupertino, CA on the back side, so that they can maximize profits and keep wall street happy? (you know, unless you report your third best quarter ever but still 'miss')

Re: Occupy Wall Street: Solidarity Thread for 2+2ers

Corporate profits as a share of the national income is a mirror image of compensation. This is the so-called class war in one image.

In the late Sixties / early Seventies the upside of automation, and the productivity achievements it would engender, was - in retrospect, by dreamers - anticipated to be shared equally among capital and labor. The 'big problems' then surrounded topics like how would the average American spend his time with a four day work week, what ought this American spend his extra time doing, etc. Clever people solved that problem- they engineered a way to siphon the profits born from productivity gains into their pockets and away from the 'wage slave'. The rest, as they say, is history...

I am part of the 53%. The 53% that pay taxes. 47% don't even pay any taxes yet feel entitled to more?

How many times are people going to trot out this utter NONSENSE?

Every single person who has a job plays payroll taxes, which are REGRESSIVE, and the main funding for the entitlement programs that the austerity-wing wants to loot. Everyone who collects unemployment is subject to federal taxes on those, too. Everyone pays State taxes, which usually include either regressive sales taxes, or broader-based income taxes.

And if that weren't enough, 47% of people don't pay Federal INCOME taxes because their INCOME is too low--in other words, they're too poor! What lucky people they are! Or, in many cases, they're seniors who no longer have an income but paid into the system their entire adult lives.

I can only conclude at this point that the "53%" line is either willful ignorance or a bold-faced lie. In either case, I'm tired of seeing it.
