Occupy Wall Street: Solidarity Thread for 2+2ers

The other Occupy Wall Street thread had gotten hijacked into a discussion of the merits of eduction and who knows what else.

This thread is specifically for videos, pictures, and discussion directly related to Occupy Wall Street and the movement it has created. Please respect that.

Yesterday, I attended the protest for Occupy Sarasota. There were many who were specifically against the Federal Reserve. Happy to see that.

There were definitely some leftists and hippies, but I don't care. I'd rather stand on the streets with them, then eat an expensive dinner with some douchebag bankers and stock brokers giving out bad advice.

Here is a video on the protest in my town yesterday.

Because we all should say enough is enough. Our system of Crony Capitalism and Corporatism must end. I think it is a greater threat to liberty and free market capitalism than many of the socialist programs the Democrats want to implement.

This is the problem with this movement. ARRRRRRRRRRR we're so mad, we won't offer a solution to the problem, we'll just bitch until it changes.

I'm sure you have more ideas for solving, what they think is a problem, but the movement as a whole sure doesn't.

And I agree with doing neither.

I'm not sure what your need is to point this out. I mean really it just detracts from your request to keep the thread focused.

I also believe that the movement in and of itself can help reunite some of those that are becoming more and more beholding to one particular party as opposed to thinking about issues on their own merits.

It's called moral outrage--which is a GOOD thing! Sometimes one can not just sit back and do nothing. Of course, sitting back and doing nothing may not be your implied 3rd option. In that case what's your suggestion?

Another way to answer your why question:

Quote:
“Why should we cherish “objectivity”, as if ideas were innocent, as if they don’t serve one interest or another? Surely, we want to be objective if that means telling the truth as we see it, not concealing information that may be embarrassing to our point of view. But we don’t want to be objective if it means pretending that ideas don’t play a part in the social struggles of our time, that we don’t take sides in those struggles.

Indeed, it is impossible to be neutral. In a world already moving in certain directions, where wealth and power are already distributed in certain ways, neutrality means accepting the way things are now. It is a world of clashing interests – war against peace, nationalism against internationalism, equality against greed, and democracy against elitism – and it seems to me both impossible and undesirable to be neutral in those conflicts.”
― Howard Zinn, Declarations of Independence
If we do nothing and just "accept the way things are" then we are doing EXACTLY what the rich and powerful want--supporting the status quo which serves their interests. Anyone who looks back at history will see that every freedom, right, and liberty we have came from STRUGGLING AGAINST the rich and powerful. That's the only way to make serious progress IN THIS WORLD. And there's a billion different ways to join that struggle for real progress. Which way is right is a personal decision.

Re: Occupy Wall Street: Solidarity Thread for 2+2ers

Solidarity from Occupy San Diego! We actual have more than one 2+2er on the streets here.

Well my hometown, the only major city without a major sports title, looked like we might fail at even having a our little camp out. But we seem to have recovered from shooting ourselves in the foot planning wise, the plans were changed, and it looks like the sleepover is on!

The new plan is to assemble at Children's Park (Front & Island, Convention Center trolley station). Then at 4pm we are going to have our little parade up to the Civic Center, pick up all the people there, and head back to the Children's Park. The GA will be at 7:00PM, and those who wanna camp out will stay for the night. Then tomorrow, Saturday at 4pm, we get to have another parade, as we move our little camp out to the Civic Center.

Please, I ask all as a personal favor, avoid the Civic Center until after 4PM Saturday. We are not protesting Yom Kippur.

I have seen exactly zero police presence. A liaison committee met with the cops informally, and we have reason to believe that today's parade, and tonight's camp-out, will be facilitated by the police, not attacked. As paraphrased at GA: the last thing we [SDPD] want to do is arrest anyone, the cities already broke.

And I would like to remind everyone about the buddy system -- use it! Assemble and speak safe, my fellow 99%ers!

Lol protestaments these people have no idea what they want, what they are protesting. They are against banks. Then they go to the atm or buy lattes with debit cards. Lmao

Banks provide capital to build things. Infrastructure, companies, jobs. They store capital for safe keeping and part of it to do this.

You sit unshowered in parks. With signs. Chanting. You want to tear it all down.
Go add something positive to society. Get a job. Join the peace corp. Go help people in need.

Lol struggle against the rich and powerful. Communism / socialism worked so well in so many places. No place is a utopia.

Strive to become rich and powerful. Don't hate them cause they have it. Plenty of fatcats weild their wealth for the benefit of others. Bill and Melinda Gates foundation...etc. tear it all down

Lol protestaments

Really? Did you even read the thread title: Solidarity Thread for 2+2ers. There's a whole other thread for all of you who get off being the MSM's sock puppets. I pity the people around you if you think LOLing at them is a form of solidarity.

It's not my OP, but we could try running this thread like a GA.

In solidarity, x357317

Just an FYI: You can have a job and still attend a protest. Shocking, I know.

Can mods move all troll/ignorant posts to the other thread? Lets set some standards for this thread early seein as people are already attempting to derail this.

I don't see a need to run this thread like a GA. We don't need the people's mic or hand gestures lol. I'm down to hear reasons for however.

Any good chants to help spread the message would help.

If you're a 2+2er and you are an Occupier, we need you to sound off!
