libertarians built a "warming room" (like, out of wood, with floors, and everything) where they give out tea and stuff like that to the occupiers to keep them warm, but they have to man it 24/7 because when they didn't the occupiers vandalized it.
libertarians also donated 3 tons of food to the occupiers.
he explained an interesting situation which came up where the occupiers held a general assembly to vote on whether to move to the other side of the street ........... the libertarians asked "why do you need to vote, can't the ones who want to move just go to the other side of the street and the ones who don't just stay here?" of course, after the vote, those who voted not to move just stayed where they were lolololol
also, due to the cold weather (i guess), he'd estimated about 2/3rds of the occupiers left, leaving their tents up for the next occupier who may come along...of course, the tents were instead filled by Philly's homeless.
Haha, the voting structure can really bog things down. It's weird that things are at the same time overly structured and completely un structured.
Also, homeless can be occupiers too. One of the great side notes of this movement is that these often destroyed food stations are supplying food to people who would otherwise be left out in the cold with no food.

The homeless don't deserve to eat right? Get a job u homeless bums, doesn't matter that nobody will hire you with that resume...it is your fault. Business owners or job creators hire the homelss all the time, work harder imo. The jobs are out there if you want them.

Lots of business owners used to just give food to the homeless...until the goverment stepped in and made it illegal

Err wat? Who said homeless don't deserve to eat?
BTW, the resume isn't the problem for most people, it's the rampant drug abuse. There are very few sober chronically homeless.

There's also a ridiculously high amount of veterans that are homeless.
"It is being called the most authoritative analysis of homelessness among military veterans, and the numbers are disturbing.
The joint report, conducted by the Department of Veterans Affairs along with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, says that while veterans make up only 10 percent of the population, they account for 16 percent of all homeless adults.

One of the many great things about the Occupy Movement is how much we have learned from and grown together with our homeless communities. Notice I said what we are learning from them. But we've been able to pay back a little of our debt to our homeless communities. From nbcsandiego...

But the increased number of beds provides more reason for police to remove Occupy San Diego protesters from the San Diego Civic Center. According to police, officers can remove the protesters if they fall asleep and there are open beds in shelters...
Occupy Wall Street demonstrators said only 10 to 15 people remain at the Civic Center overnight. Those without homes have considered going to homeless shelters, but prefer to remain with the protesters. "If home is having to be here with fellow protesters and address those grievances of the declaration of Occupy San Diego, then this is home," said Michael Basillas, an Occupy SD protester who said he and others take shifts, sleeping in vehicles and staying up to protest througout the night.
There are supposed to be three ways the USA#1 capitalists will let you escape being plundered by their landlords: (a) permitted or tolerated, (b) a sleep-in is supposed to be protected first amendment speech, as long as you are not blocking the streets, and (c) if there is nowhere else to go -- they are not supposed to criminalize poor people's mere existence.
The fact that they opened the city shelter early this year, and instead of intentionally making it under needed capacity, they made it intentionally over capacity just for us occupiers, means that there is still another answer to what "all this protesting is accomplishing".

And let's talk about homeless vets. They most certainly speak up in our GA's here in San Diego (and yes, I'm back in San Diego -- $159 on Delta non-stop JFK-SAN, and I even enjoyed X-Men 1st Class on the flight, for those keeping score at home). As one very eloquently (and soberly) pointed out our first night in Freedom Plaza (nee SD Civic Center): He had been occupying the plaza since serving in the first Iraq ground invasion. People gotta realize that it isn't just individuals who get dragged down into homelessness -- it's also spouses and whole families. In a city with a major ex-military concentration, like San Diego, and when we count in the wife's, husbands, and children of ex-military on the streets, the number feels anecdotal at least, to be well over 50%.

I'm not sure why this is terribly surprising. Take the selection of those who go into the service and then add in some mental abuse of being in the service, and you have a lot of people that crack.

Yeah, that was today, downtown in Freedom Plaza (nee SD Civic Center). This SD U-T article has a working linkee to the arrest. Mr. Lutz doesn't resist and there really is nothing exciting to see here. BTW, Mr. Lutz, who has done a lot of good work for the occupation.
There was a press conference regarding this that interrupted GA tonight. From all reports it seems Mr. Lutz and allies are trying to get a court ruling on tabling in that particular area of the plaza where he set up at to register voters. They believe it is, perhaps, a legal gray area regarding tabling.
