NYC bans food donations to city's homeless shelters

This is a real feel good story, the food police had to step in, apparently to make sure those hungry hungry homeless weren't getting too much salt or fat.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s food police have struck again!

Outlawed are food donations to homeless shelters because the city can’t assess their salt, fat and fiber content, reports CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.

Glenn Richter arrived at a West Side synagogue on Monday to collect surplus bagels — fresh nutritious bagels — to donate to the poor. However, under a new edict from Bloomberg’s food police he can no longer donate the food to city homeless shelters.

City homeless shelters are for homeless fish. Ballin' homeless go to the private shelters.

I'm pretty sure this follows something very similar done in Philadelphia just a few weeks before. Nutter (iirc, the mayor of Philly) has made it illegal to feed the homeless in the hopes that that would make the government's inability to deal with this problem harder to see.

Bloomberg is a 5th degree Illuminatus Malthusian. Their mandate is to reduce the "surplus population" of "useless eaters." This edict is just the beginning.

It's been like that in Philly for awhile. Several years ago I knew a guy who waited tables at Fogo de Chao, the Brazilian steakhouse with tableside meat service. My buddy told me that for the longest time the management donated the day's leftover food to a nearby homeless shelter, but the city stepped in and made them stop. The reasoning had something to do with food contamination fears. Now they throw a ****-ton of food away every night.

So... I guess it's better to toss out leftover filet mingon instead of giving it to a hungry person.

Logic fail IMHO.

If people could get food from charities and food donors, we wouldn't need as much welfare or food stamps... That would be a disaster.

Pretty insane that more people aren't talking about this, but I guess this is America, people are used to the homeless being treated like absolute dirt, so nothing new here, move along.

Well, when a dude gets sick from eating out of a dumpster he can't sue the original owner of the food. We must protect ourselves from those litigious bums.

Taking food throwing it in a dumpster and having homeless pick it out of dumpster and eat it is better for them then just giving them food not from a dumpster?

I'm pretty sure it's fear of litigation, like someone said earlier.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

The homeless are well known for their incessant frivolous litigation.

As a prior homeless myself, I LOL'd. No ambulance chaser wants a street tramp in his office.

The article above said the city was worried about the homeless' salt and fiber intake
