yeah, once you stop telling women they're bad at math suddenly they start doing a lot better than boys at math

crazy how that works
08-14-2016 , 06:16 PM
It's really unfair to compare the intellect of men and women when BitchiBee is dragging our average down this much.

You're moving the goalposts from STEM subjects to college in general. There's been far less stigma against women going to college to get degrees in "traditional" women's fields like education, liberal arts, etc. In fact we've had women's colleges for over 150 years.

When it comes to women becoming engineers or other non-traditional fields, there's been far more pushback from people like you. Put another way, women have been getting degrees in French from Radcliffe for a long time, but Columbia College only went co-ed in 1987.

No, men have not been historically excluded from studying psychology or biology.

they don't...and you really think women's brains are inherently better at studying psychology?
yes they do, more then men dominate stem fields yet its only stem thats sexist. Women prob enjoy psychology more and are probably better at it, given 80% of enrollment in masters and doctorates are women. In your opinion is this discrepency because of rampant man hating in pysch departments?

Health Professions (85% women): nursing assistant, veterinary assistant, dental assistant, etc.
Public Administration (82%): social work, public policy, etc.
Education (79%): pre-K, K-12, higher education, etc.
Psychology (77%): cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, etc.

this is ridiculous, I'm not push backing, just theres less women then men in stem fields is not inherently sexist, men are better than women on avg at these subjects and they enjoy them more. If a smart woman wanted to do stem more power to them.

You accuse me of moving the goalpost, the fact you dismiss that academia is currently dominated by females with many subjects dominated by them when even 100 years ago there was discriminatory practices in pretty much all fields says it all. In any field thats dominated by woman theres always silence in any dominated by men its sexism. The mere mention of men and women having different abilities and preferences is sexism.
08-14-2016 , 08:13 PM
Those differences in abilities you keep talking about are usually shown not to exist, much like your ability to not be wrong.

I think these are due to society and not the fact that women are genetically better at assisting dentists.

Yes, you are absolutely pushing back by ignoring centuries of discrimination and chalking up all these discrepancies to some half-baked theory about the supposed biological inferiority of women.

Well, yeah, you keep moving it back from STEM subjects to non-STEM. Also, academia is male-dominated by far. I'm not really sure if you understand what "goalpost-shifting" means. I'm not even sure if you know what "academia" means tbqh. Your English is borderline unreadable at times.

There's like a 95% chance BB thinks global warming is a hoax made up by scientists, but this study that allegedly shows the superiority of male "visual-spatial" skills is taken as Gospel by him.
08-14-2016 , 08:32 PM
In his defense, he might think engineers are people who drive trains. Who actually might need superior spacial skills as opposed to actual engineers.

why is 77% of psyc women? do you think its because we are discriminating against them?

centuries of discrimination yet 60% of the student body is female.
women perform better than men in most college fields, thats fine
men perform better than women in stem, esp comp sci and engineering-->must be the legacy of centuries of discrimination

do you see how ridiculous you sound

saying men and women are different=women are inferior lol you libs

Has any non-conservative used the term PC in the last 20 years?

Here in the UK it doesn't carry quite the same negativity, so people make sure to add an appendage and refer to "Political correctness gone mad" to indicate that they're a little right wing or have completely misunderstood the concept.

It's a useful method.

Has a positive connation in the UK. Many of us identify as being PC*

Those who object to pc use the same meaning as well. They just don't think it's a good thing (or have confused PC with health and safety)

* maybe particularly from my generation who saw what a huge positive difference it made

I find it unfair that an unranked mma fighter can have a sex change to become the best female mma fighter in the world.

Not being allowed to exercise at Curves is incredibly offensive. Needed to get that off my chest.

Yes, but usually it's just quoting conservatives criticizing the PC.

Most people are too stupid to learn calculus properly.

That's not unPC

Learning calculas properly requires well above average intelligence and a lot of work.

If there was a mandatory advanced calculus (integrals as a function of 2 variables, integration by substitution) test in 6 months, where all those who failed would be shot, I think you would get around a 75% pass rate.

Too bad it's about this specific section of math, otherwise I could write a book about it called "The Long Division".

Easily but that doesn't require understanding calculus. It's just a bag of tricks.

I dont think there is much math before college that actually requires you to have good "spatial skills". Alot of the tasks is just solving equations and if you need to mentally represent something for yourself alot of it can be done thinking in 2d or 1d. Some will be 3d (which is the "spatial" part, right), but i dont really think that is a whole lot iirc. So its not like the ppl (women) that are concidering doing engineering have been exposed to a whole lot of spatial stuff and that they feel they plainly suck at this. I would think its mostly social and cultural expectations that make more males do engineering. Many women dont want to end up in a harsh male dominated environment, so a safe bet is to go into the health care industry.

You know they just covered this on NPR recently. Say there's a big issue with how we teach math in America.
