Re: Mitt Romney's "Catch 22" Tax Return Dilemma

Riverman, by that standard probably >98% of all elected officials in our memory are unsuitable to lead (if we are to believe what they say about their religious habits). Almost all religions have some aspects that are laughable if you look at them outside of cultural bias.

Didn't say it makes anyone unfit to lead. Just that they shouldn't get a pass because people think talking about it is 'distasteful.' Many people in Happy Valley, PA thought it was really distasteful to talk about a monster raping kids for 20+ years.

Re: Mitt Romney's "Catch 22" Tax Return Dilemma

This thread just proves why he should release his tax returns. ITT, people are assuming he paid anywhere from 0 to 3% of his income in taxes. Even if he paid "just" 10% of his income in taxes, it's a lot more than what people are assuming. But by not releasing his taxes, he's allowing people to assume he paid no taxes.

I understand the principle involved (by giving in to those demands, he's going to show that that making demands works, allowing them to make even more demands).

It almost reminds me of the birth certificate, but with a huge catch. Obama, by not releasing his birth certificate, allowed the "Birthers" to look incredible stupid by the time he released his birth certificate. Problem for Romney is, he's not going to make people look stupid by releasing tax returns that show he paid 10% or even 15%.

Re: Mitt Romney's "Catch 22" Tax Return Dilemma

Yeah but at least he will not look like a tax scammer, which is what he looks like now. The game theory video I linked embedded explains why. It is just a matter of time and Romney will release more tax returns.

HIS TAX RETURNS ARE LIKELY NOT FINISHED YET.

What about this is so hard for people to understand? He's going to have 500 pages of extra documentation. That **** takes time. I bet he hasn't filed a tax return earlier than September in the past 20 years.

Re: Mitt Romney's "Catch 22" Tax Return Dilemma

the problem with the tax issue is he has no good talking point response. the **** about entities blah blah ain't gonna do it - mittens has to either just release them or come up with a good enough talking point for why he shouldn't, and the window for that route is prolly just about closed

It's not a talking point. It's just demonstrating the most BASIC level of understanding of the tax filing system.

Not everyone just has to wait for their payroll provider to issue a W-2 and maybe wait for a few bank/mortgage interest statements.

You might be able to do your taxes in 25 minutes with TurboTax. Shocking, I know, but some people can't.

Are you guys really this dense? Surely you must have a relative who owns a business. Maybe they can explain it to you.

Hell, I haven't even STARTED gathering the paperwork to hand to our accountant to do our 2011 business taxes. In fact, reading this thread was the reminder I needed to stop procrastinating, so I'm currently burning a copy of the QB database to get over there. None of the owners can file theirs until the business does. This is not complicated.

Nobody is calling for his 2011 return.

His 2011 ones are obviously not done, he doesn't have his final K-1's yet. His 2009 ones are obviously done though.

We all know it wouldn't end at 2009 if there wasn't anything controversial in there.

"Okay but WHAT ABOUT 2008?! HUH!? WHAT ARE YOU HIDING, RMONEY?"

herp derp

OK, but for that decision why does it matter that his '11 taxes arent done yet?

if there is nothing controversial, then why not release it (and the others)?

Nobody said anything about 2009 until 3 posts ago.

All of the news stories I hear don't reference 2009 either. The implication is that he isn't releasing his current tax returns because of shady content, when that's absurd.

He released 2010, why is 2009 special? What do you expect to find? What if it wasn't there? Would you immediately start calling for 2008?

The whole thing is a retarded witch hunt.
