Brag: It's on the ballot and long overdue

Beat: It's midterms, GOP turnout in FL will be "high," it's likely to be defeated

Variance: Rick Scott may or may not support it depending on polling

Rick Scott will support it if his medical company will expand into medical weed if it were legalised, LDO.
01-16-2014 , 05:19 PM
I guess since Florida recently legalized murder they might as well legalize weed.

One thing is for sure, prohibitionists are very rustled and going hard to the paint. Pot kills dontcha know?

Quinnipiac did a poll of registered voters in Nov that said ~82% of the state, both GOP and DEM support the idea. I think it was 87% DEM support and 76% GOP.

It's still gotta pass the fl supreme court (which it will), then the state Congress will write the implementation (which is the other problem).

Nugget - The guy who employs Charlie Crist a his Tampa law firm is the one who drafted the petition.

Not sure if Crist works out of Tampa but the lawyer in question is John Morgan and he's based out of Orlando. He's a big Dem donor (iirc Obama's been to his house).

Florida's teabagger-backed AG is, of course, against it.

He is/was on staff with Morgan. The 'inside rumor' is that Morgan is funding this to bring out the young/liberal voters to help Crist win.

Though elected in 2010, I wouldn't consider Pam Bondi a tea-party candidate. She is [R] though.

If this hits the ballot it passes, and I think it's not even close.

Agree with bold. The young vote speculation is dramatic and I'm sure this on the ballot will bring out a lot of those young voters, but the measure has fairly equal support among the parties and independents. Bondi may not be considered "Tea Party" but she seems to get and follow her marching orders.

Robert Platshorn has done a ton of work in the "Leisureville's" and "Century Village's" etc, getting the senior crowd on board basically since he was released from his 'longest sentence ever handed out for marijuana trafficking' in 2008. Of course, he's the regional director for NORML

I think the amendment passes with a majority of support nearly across the board. I don't think much/any of an additional youth vote will be needed, but I thin they get it.

Talks/rumors may be dramatic and no way to confirm till Nov, but for a state that is already pretty close to even over the last few state-wide elections, (1.1% margin of victory for Gov Scott in 2010) I think it can be a very valid difference maker in this election and bring out some voters who might otherwise be .. apathetic?

Good to see, but I'm not nearly as convinced of it passing. Nearly 20% of the state voting bloc is Hispanic, who go against normal Democratic thought and break anti marijuana from what I've read.

Lol at this post. It is so bad. You literally started at the conclusion, found some vaguely related "evidence" and just assumed that will back up the conclusion.

Anyway, posted earlier:

Meanwhile:

Quote:
Medical pot’s sky-high approval cuts across party and demographic lines, with Republican support the lowest at a still-strong 56 percent, the poll conducted for People United for Medical Marijuana, or PUFMM, shows.

The outsized support of Democrats and independents brings overall backing of the amendment to 70 percent; with only 24 percent opposed, according to the poll obtained by The Miami Herald.

Lol@u. Assume you'll take an even bet of this passing with 76% of the vote? I split the difference between the two polls.

It really depends on which Hispanics you're talking about. Puerto Rican/Dominican ex pats tend to vote Dem while Cubans break for the GOP, for example. South Florida Cubans have been voting GOP since the Bay of Pigs. (We could probably start a whole thread about that dynamic)

I really hope people are right who say it's a shoo-in but I'll believe it when I see it. I still have visions of 2010 dancing in my head, and Governor Q-Tip is going to try to purge (Dem) voter rolls once again now that SCOTUS has ruled that racism no longer exists.

Right, I'm not disputing that Crist took a job with Morgan's firm after his failed Senate bid, that's common knowledge, I was responding/nitting to the previous poster about the location of the firm (it's based out of Orlando, not Tampa).

And Bondi may not have run specifically on the Tea Party platform but she is definitely backed by the TP and has been predictably awful as a TP AG would be expected to be. I never thought I'd be nostalgic for the days of Bill McCollum but here I am. She is awful (and not just on this issue).

Good stuff. Living here, I hope it passes as well, just think those polls may not necessarily capture the true support.

Pothead turnout is always unpredictable

Approved to be on the ballot by the FL Supreme Court.

Ok. If it passes with 76.00% of the vote or more you win, if it passes with less than 76.00% or doesn't pass I win. $50? Reply with booked to, uh, book it.
