Re: Mayor Bloomberg: Breastfeed or Else Ask Nicely

I'm not getting all huffy about this. We'd done our own research. Lactation lady came in, "I'd like to discuss breast feeding with you" "No, we're going with formula" "but are you aware" "Yes" "ok then".

I think this is sensationalist reporting. I also feel Bloomberg invited it upon himself with his weird soda police thing.

How long would it take someone to become a lactation consultant? I'm asking for a friend.

Re: Mayor Bloomberg: Breastfeed or Else Ask Nicely

The only dealings I have had with lac consultants has been during my OB rotation. They were all registered nurses who had specialized training.
So your "friend" would have to invest a lot of time in order to look at boobs swollen with milk.

The nurses are probably even less excited about this than the parents.

Try reading your own thread and learning that what your OP suggests isn't actually happening!

Here is the article from the post. It is also a voluntary initiative, and saying that formula gets "locked up" is sensationalist at best, everything at hospitals are in store rooms that patients can't access.
Not everything is stored in rooms patients can't access. In our room, we had diapers and formula stored in the bassinet for the baby. Along with clothes and blankets and all. I couldn't possibly see them storing diapers in a separate room and making you ask for them. It makes no sense.

Exactly.

Breast milk is the better choice for most newborns, that's not in question. However it's only ever so slightly superior.

The issue is these breast feeding nazi types who try to equate formula with rat poison or something.

Re: Mayor Bloomberg: Breastfeed or Else Ask Nicely

The breast debate mirrors the public education debate fairly well. Breast feeders generally have more time to spend with their children, which obviously greatly improves interaction and learning at an early age. For many people, it's just not an option however.

I can't cut and paste from the PDF to which I linked, so you'll have to go and read it yourself.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised you're unwilling to do the legwork yourself, since you couldn't be bothered to include a link in your post.
