seattlelou not posting on 2p2 anymore or is he staying in P7.0? He definitely was the best conservative member here.

You can think that.

But you would be wrong.

If "homophobe" is defined as "aversion to homosexuality", you can be a homophobe without thinking that homosexuality is wrong or that gay marriage etc should be illegal. There are probably millions of people in this category. There are also probably people who have no aversion to homosexuality but oppose gay rights.

Using the words "homophobe" or "not homophobe" to 100% correlate with the liberal position on this issue is sloppy wording.

Would you say the same thing if the joke was that the only book he studies is the Koran?

And if Monday was defined as Sunday we could always have 3 day weekends.

Like either gay people are gross and icky or they aren't. Can't really have it both ways and call people you don't like homosexual slurs and still be super self righteous about gay marriage and discrimination

That might work but it's better to avoid overt sexual acts. In practice the optimal play is to only focus on the scrotal sac and avoid the penile shaft. Trump cupping Putin's ballsac, possibly needing to use both of his tiny hands, works far better than penis-in-mouth IMHO.

Of course this is all irrelevant philosophy. I didn't like the joke not because it offended homosexuals but rather because it added about one percent to the chances I will be blown up by a Russian hydrogen bomb.

Yeah, I was gonna make a similar reply but it slipped my mind when I got a call on my obamaphone and had to take it.

I'm not actually conservative; I just poop on bad liberal posts in here. On Chiefsplanet I would be a pinko commie.

China made a giant leap forward in quantum computing, news today says. And here we are trying to gut education. It would be nice for the US to be a leader in technological innovation, but I guess we're okay taking a back seat to countries who prize intelligence and advancement. I hope they enjoy owning the next Google or Facebook.

Haaretz: ‘Israeli Experts Fear Invasion of Yellow Crazy Ant That Wreaks Havoc on Crops’

Should not people and civilizations have the same fear of invasion from those different from themselves? Does not the category of “invasive species” apply to people as well?

For example, why would non-Muslims welcome an influx of Muslims or why would non-black civilizations welcome an influx of blacks? Why would a Muslim country such as Saudi Arabia welcome an influx of non-Muslims? Why would Japan welcome an influx of non-Japanese? Why would Israel want an influx of non-Jews? Such influxes would create social tension and destroy social trust.

When you let in a non-native species, you might not know the devastation the invader will wreck upon your civilization.

It used to be that Los Angeles was filled with beautiful white people. Now they’re a distinct minority. I grew up in white Australia and when I walk down the street these days in brown Los Angeles, and at times and in particular moods I feel uncomfortable because most of the people are so different from me, so brown, and they’re speaking different languages and they don’t have the same allegiances and customs that I have, and I remember that this city, this nation, this West, used to be white and now it is getting browner and stranger by the day, and this makes me, at times, annoyed.

Maybe this was brought up in another thread or maybe it's just too LDO, but the recent proposed Texas law that would have immigration detention centers qualify for funds as child-care facilities was written by a lobbyist for a private prison company.

US obviously had a head start. We have the lead with 593 satellites. China is in second place with 192. If China doesn't implode first they'll probably catch us.

While I agree that there is a lack of focus on education in the US, I am not sure citing a Chinese breakthrough in quantum computing is the best evidence of that.

There are other Universities in the world and those universities will on occasion come up with breakthroughs.

If you want to see evidence of the US falling behind in tech education, just stroll through the science and engineering department of your local university or the parking lot of your local tech firm. The majority of non US born individuals you will find is the real indictment on US k-12 tech education.

Its not just a government issue though, parents should also shoulder some of thr blame.

I'm not sure what the idea of a "head start" is supposed to capture here. The question is whether the U.S. is still a leader in technological innovation. If you want to say that it is, but only because China hasn't yet fully recovered from its legacy of horrible communist misgovernment, you are probably right, but I don't think it changes the answer to the question. That response is answer to the question of why the U.S. is leading in (some) areas of technological innovation.

Head start in that we have a lot of old satellites. Who is putting up more satellites right now? I'm not sure, but if China is outpacing the US then it's not the legacy of horrible communist misgovernment that's the issue, but that we had a head start. Are we leading? And if we are, is China on a trajectory to overtake us? Now, number of satellites is not necessarily the best way to determine this, but that's the subject at hand. I think we are likely to produce more advanced technology even if China launches more satellites.

But the real real point in the post that started this was that the new government isn't helping and that's a good point imo.\

BTW, China is 2nd in satellites. Why are the other 187 countries so far behind? Was it their legacy of horrible communist misgovernment?
