It's a ****ing absurd story.
The case makes it clear that affirmative action needs to be increased.

That's not an answer to my question. I can respect someone who thinks that AA is necessary. I can't respect someone who thinks that being 1/32 NA and growing up white contributes significantly to the diversity AA is supposed to encourage.

It is directly relating to your second question. I have no idea if it directly relates to your first question cos there isn't enough info to be sure.

Re: "MAY"DAY 2012 politics NC thread.

The only way that's an answer for the second question is if it's a no, which proves my point nicely.

Did she receive benefits from AA?

Harvard and Penn both have strong AA policies and both listed her as a NA. We can't know if she would have been hired if she was considered white, but being NA definitely helped.

Race is taken into consideration at just about every major university in hiring and admissions.

Re: "MAY"DAY 2012 politics NC thread.

So she was considered NA when applying and that was taken into account? Or are you speculating here?

We don't know that it was taken into account in this specific case, and we can't really know. We can just infer from the fact Harvard and Penn both have policies that say they take race into account.

The absurdity of the situation is why I care. This person:

Was listed as Harvard Law's first woman of color.

The rest can't really be proven.
ikes, f the haters - this is incredibly funny and absurd.

So it's basically a bunch of speculation. Good to know.

But we can keep talking about it as if it matters! Anything to deflect the conversation away from the issues.

Re: "MAY"DAY 2012 politics NC thread.

Right, we can't get an exact copy of internal deliberations of Penn and Harvard from the 80s and 90s, we can only take 'wild guesses' by looking at their policies that specifically say they take race into account and that Warren was a Native American.

Re: "MAY"DAY 2012 politics NC thread.

I hear Scott Brown got AA benefits because his name is "Brown"! I have absolutely zero evidence for this, but if you look at a picture of him he's barely beige! It's absurd!

Zero evidence doesn't mean what you think it means.

Re: "MAY"DAY 2012 politics NC thread.

I hear Romney has multiple wives. I infer this because we know he's a mormon.
