I dunno why you would read an ultranerdy blog you don't enjoy or get anything out of just to be cool, but I find most of his posts worth reading and a lot of them pretty interesting, although there are some horrible ones (the Trump hot take most definitely included). The rule of thumb on post quality is:

link posts > psychiatry/medicine/statistics > book reviews > abstract head up your ass navelgazing > replacement level post = politics in the abstract >> political current events

EDIT: He wrote a review of Seeing Like a State recently, which was pretty good.

Rubio would still have some sort of Muslim/terrorist EO.

Sure, Bannon wouldn't be around. And no tweets. But still the actual legislation would be similar.
100% yes. You don't get the Nazi/Fascist **** apparently.

If pence is president we probably get an empowered doctor-killing "pro life" crowd. I guess at least the nazis have mostly stuck to desecrating the dead so far, plus bomb threats.

Yeah that's the thing. Pence is a Christian Dominionist which is also totally mainstream in Republican leadership:
http://www.alternet.org/story/152271...ning_democracy
Quote:
Dominionists want to impose a form of Christian nationalism on the United States, a concept that was dismissed as eroding freedom and democracy by the founders of our country. Dominionism has become a major influence on the right-wing populist Tea Parties as Christian Right activists have flooded into the movement at the grassroots. At the same time, legitimate questions have been raised about whether or not potential Republican presidential nominees Rick Perry, Michelle Bachmann, or Sarah Palin have moved from a generic form of Christian Right Dominionism toward the more totalitarian form know as Dominion Theology.

Clueless journalists and crafty Christian Right pundits have mocked the idea that Dominionism as a religiously motivated political tendency even exists. Scholars, however, have been writing about Dominionism for over a decade, some using the term directly, and others describing the tendency in other ways.

Dominionism is a broad political impulse within the Christian Right in the United States. It comes in a variety of forms that author Fred Clarkson and I call soft and hard. Fred and I probably coined the term “Dominionism” back in the 1990s, but in any case we certainly were the primary researchers who organized its use among journalists and scholars.

Clarkson noted three characteristics that bridge both the hard and the soft kind of Dominionism.

Dominionists celebrate Christian nationalism, in that they believe the United States once was, and should again be, a Christian nation. In this way, they deny the Enlightenment roots of American democracy.
Dominionists promote religious supremacy, insofar as they generally do not respect the equality of other religions, or even other versions of Christianity.
Dominionists endorse theocratic visions, believing that the Ten Commandments, or “biblical law,” should be the foundation of American law, and that the U.S. Constitution should be seen as a vehicle for implementing Biblical principles.

But if Pence + Trump were both in on treason in the election (which seems likely at this point), neither one of them gets to be President. It would fall to Paul Ryan *shudder*.

NRA overtaken by pro-Putin shills?

Also, Paul Ryan not authoring bills is likely a massive improvement.

I agree no way Pence washes off Trump's stink. Ryan supports Trump when he said he wouldn't and he'd have a role in removing him if it comes to that. With that history on top of his RyanCare fail he won't be able to be be that effective, we can hope. Either would suck bigly but still be preferrable to the orange menace.

Berry was a pretty fair hand at the blues, too.

Not my style, but that Berry clip is pretty impressive. Some people can play like the instrument is a part of themselves.

Very much my style, and while I was not blown away by the guitar work, I loved his singing, and the way he reworked the lyrics was hilarious and awesome.

I saw Chuck Berry at World's of Fun (amusement park) in KC in high school. He put on a great show.

Decided to try quinoa after reading about it in the New York Times (lol me). This **** tastes like nothing. Can anybody recommend a good, simple way to jazz it up?

I added a half cup of quinoa to http://toriavey.com/toris-kitchen/20...log-shakshuka/ and it wasn't just flavorless mush, it was peppery, oniony mush.

I'm not much for cutting up veggies so I use 3 pepper blends from the froze veggie isle and canned crushed tomatoes. Easy Peasy

If you feel like getting incredibly pissed off at the criminal justice system on your sunday, this story is sickening:

Prison guards to not be charged for murdering someone they were torturing.

But to provide the less harrowing perspective, this piece paints the incident in a much different light:

No Charges in Darren Rainey death
