Along the same lines, I haven't read this yet but I imagine it will evoke similar reactions: long NYT piece about no-knock drug raids

Quote:
Thousands of times a year, these “dynamic entry” raids exploit the element of surprise to effect seizures and arrests of neighborhood drug dealers. But they have also led time and again to avoidable deaths, gruesome injuries, demolished property, enduring trauma, blackened reputations and multimillion-dollar legal settlements at taxpayer expense, an investigation by The New York Times found.

****ing insane that this **** was still going on around a century ago. http://all-that-is-interesting.com/o...n=fbpdotabenga

But hey - let's have that HONEST conversation about racial differences. Let's just go down the path, dictated by PURE REASON, of categorizing groups of human beings into strata. What could go wrong?

Quote:
A short time after losing his family, he was picked up by slave traders who put him in chains and dragged him out of the forest, which had been the only home he had ever known. They put him to work as a laborer in an agricultural village. It was there, in 1904, that Benga was discovered by, of all people, an American businessman and amateur explorer named Samuel Verner.

Verner had been sent to the Congo on an expedition commissioned by the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, which was planning an exhibit for the St. Louis World’s Fair that would “educate” the public in what was then a racist, pseudoscientific brand of anthropology.

Verner’s job was to find some authentic African pygmies to display as “missing links” in human evolution. Looking at Benga, a lean, very black, very short man with teeth that had been filed into points, Verner knew he had what he needed. He bought Benga for a pound of salt and a bolt of cloth.

The part about putting people on display isn't so common anymore, but the slavery part still is.

Tomi Lahren has been suspended from The Blaze for being pro choice. For reasons I can't articulate, this amuses me.

Kind of a tall order when Trump voters think their Obamacare subsidizes were part of Trumps tax plan.

How is she so stridently conservative and pro choice?
03-20-2017 , 11:08 PM
She must have had an abortion.
03-20-2017 , 11:32 PM
or someone she knew

Probably sarcasm, but just in case its not, she said that limited government in her opinion means fed gov shouldn't tell states what they can/can't do with abortion.

While I completely disagree with her and think she's one of the worst media figures on the right, I'll give her credit for being slightly consistent with the idea of limited government. I could be wrong, but I read that she said the same thing for guns, i.e. each state should decide? (Don't quote me, I don't watch her, but just read it in an article/trump friend was bitching about her)

Regardless, pretty hilarious that the tomi lahren stans who call everyone "snowflakes" are so sensitive that their idol says one single idea they don't agree with and immediately threaten to boycott/get her fired for it lol.

Uh, if that is her reasoning, that is exactly the opposite of the reasoning of the pro choice side. Pro choice people want the federal government telling states that abortion should be legal (the status quo). Repealing Roe is how Tomi gets the States rights scenario.

God Congresscritters are so insufferable in every way. The "questioning" of Gorsuch is these asshats taking turns making speeches.

Sure, but it's important to remember that conservatives waffle back and forth between "states rights" and "individual rights protected by the federal government" as it suits their reactionary needs.

Tomi like 90% to have had an abortion.

These are the people who voted for Trump. Logic isn't exactly their forte.

Benny Johnson got suspended from IJR, bad week for all the viral right wing morons.

But, related to some other stuff we've been talking about,

Politics aside I would like to impregnate Tomi
03-21-2017 , 01:10 PM
The IJR email yelling at Benny Johnson for never showing up to work is some of the best written passive-aggressive boss-speak I've ever seen, though, that lady should probably be editor in chief instead of HR

If we are gonna realtalk about her looks, I think we can all agree she's good looking but the amount of make up is deeply offputting.

You might like the documentary Peace Officer.

Quote:
Peace Officer is a documentary about the increasingly militarized state of American police as told through the story of 'Dub' Lawrence, a former sheriff who established and trained his rural state's first SWAT team only to see that same unit kill his son-in-law in a controversial standoff 30 years later.

Greenwald with some vintage fire directed at Edward Jay Epstein (and other journalists that have uncritically repeated him), an anti-Snowden conspiracy machine who based some of his "Snowden is working for the Chinese/Russians/insert villain here" theories on The Missing Eleven Days, a time period where he claims (with no evidence) that Snowden was not at the Mira Hotel in Hong Kong and his whereabouts were thus unknown.

Snowden's lawyers just obtained his hotel records from that time showing he was indeed at the Mira Hotel. For a less GG-infused take, Charlie Savage notes here that his earlier criticism of Epstein's shoddy attempt at journalism has been vindicated.

The reactions of the few people involved that have responded are amusing:

Quote:
Only two of the commentators who spread this false claim have thus far commented: former NSA employee Schindler*, who responded by blocking me on Twitter and then suggesting that both myself and the Intercept are controlled by Putin; and 2) Kelley, who implied that the documents may be forged because the name of the reservationist at the Mira that appears on the booking form is the same as an Asian actress (it’s also a name shared by dozens of other women, at least, in Hong Kong), only to delete those tweets, finally blaming the Wall Street Journal for the multiple tweets and articles he wrote over the years accusing Snowden of lying about his whereabouts and using that to strongly imply that he was working with the Russians and/or Chinese.
*this is the @20committee guy whose conspiratorial tweets get posted here sometimes

Not many of you are old enough to have paid attention to the 1990 story about the Iraqi Army dumping babies out of incubators in Kuwait. It was a big sensational story. I missed this if it is widely known, but that was fake news from an American PR company.

Pretty good insight into how right wing propaganda comes to life

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/3...as-un-American

Quote:
At the town hall, Trott was firm in his support for repealing the Affordable Care Act which will uninsure tens of millions of Americans in the first decade. After the event concluded, he was ushered out of the hall to chants of “VOTE HIM OUT!” Unfortunately for him, someone forgot to turn of his lapel microphone and he and his aides were heard planning to portray his constituents as “un-American” and admitting to “bouncing” questions – tossing out question cards they didn’t want to have to answer.

At around the 0:34 second mark in the video below, you can hear Trott’s aide say, “We’re going to take that part where they’re booing funding the military and I’m gonna get somebody to write a story and we’re going to promote the **** out of that. It’s un-American crap.” He’s referring to the fact that the crowd booed him when he called the American military “the weakest it’s ever been.” Later in the video, Trott asks if they “bounced” any questions. His aide confirms they did.
then the very next day he's on Fox News selling the 'un-American' narrative
