He should also listen to Lord, because he is accurately explaining the deplorables phenomenon, which Maher quite clearly shows that he does not understand.

I bet Martin Shkreli could find a way to sell them some midazolam. The governor should just call him.

I agree.

Maher made a complete dick of himself.

My dad just died in 2015 at age 60. From social security my mom got a one-time payment of $255 (12.4% of his paycheck for 37 years of full time work). She gets his pension for 5 years and she gets 100% of his 401k.

I'm not a viewer of RT, but I'm a viewer and reader of Chris Hedges, who is probably my favorite journalist. He used to be a war correspondent, and he has won a Pulitzer prize. He also was a co-plaintiff in a lawsuit against the Obama Administration over section 1021 of the 2011 NDAA.

He does a show on RT called On Contact, and I highly recommend it. I understand completely that RT employs people like him, and uses shows like his, to bring focus to negative aspects of the U.S., but the content of his show is factual and legitimate, and is very good. Hedges isn't a propagandist.

I've seen (more listened on the radio, but he's on RT too) some Thom Hartmann and he certainly didn't seem like a Russian tool and was very strongly Bernie->Hillary and that people shouldn't vote Stein unless in a totally safe state.

But, for anyone, it's pretty clear they should get off that network and that Russia is using people who may well be independent to make the network seem more credible. I'm pretty sure I've listened to Chris Hedges on the radio too. He should definitely get off RT if he's decent.

I have mixed feelings about him being on RT. I probably agree with your assessment that RT is trying to gain credibility by using him and other journalists with good reputations, and also by doing things like interviewing people like Ralph Nader, and I'm sure Chris Hedges understands this himself, but it also gives him a platform to reach a wider audience, and I think he's probably making a pragmatic decision by being on the show.

He has another show called Days of Revolt on youtube. I'm not sure what network it's on, but it too is a really great show.

There's a reasonable chance you stopped watching literally seconds before the HAM. It starts at 6:24.

That **** is never coming back.

That house stayed in our family until my uncle died about 12 years ago. Such a great house. Had a park with a public pool one block away. That pool was my baby sitter. Unfortunately no one knew what sunscreen was in the 70s apparently.

And the neighborhood in the meantime got rediscovered. It would be worth $300-ish now I guess. Maybe more. I know some hot neighborhoods in KC where smaller houses are going for $500k+.

So we shouldn't take expired drugs because they could be dangerous. What happens when lethal injection drugs expire?

I did drop out around then. I went back and listened to the rest. It's better in the second half, but I don't think Maher truly owns him. Seemingly Jake Tapper is the only one who understands the correct way to deal with the slappies, which is to ask the same question over and over and over, until they respond appropriately (rather than pivot). Like here: Maher broaches the Sessions' lie, but lets it go after Lord spins some absurdity straight out of BroadwaySushy's 2p2 posting.

Right, I didn't say he pwnd him, just went hard with the "Don't bull**** me!" It's refreshing even if it doesn't yield fruit. I feel like he's trying to make up for going soft with Milo.

Tapper is the people's champion right now.

Yes, but social security has to work this way because it's insurance against running out of money in old age. Complaining about paying for X years but only getting Y of benefits is functionally the same as complaining that you've paid home insurance premiums for years but your house didn't even burn down once. What a rip off!

I would wager a guess that more Americans have heard of YouTube than RT, so maybe if you don't want to be viewed as propaganda, don't be on a propaganda network. Like, being on North Korean state media would probably get him a decent audience, but does that excuse him being a puppet for a bloodthirsty regime?

I am proud the White House has chosen to recognize my heritage as somebody who has a mother with a maiden name indicating possible Irish heritage but no actual evidence of lineage from that country, or any other country outside of North America, and that even if that lineage does exist it likely indicates ancestry of Norman invaders rather than indigenous Irish people, and the whole thing is pretty dubious all 'round with since the only family tree we've ever seen was clearly made up by my grandfather and we learned after his death that he wasn't even Catholic, which kinda explains why he never went to church, and for all practical purposes my maternal line began with my great grandparents and nobody really knows where the heck they came from. That will be my toast this year on St. Patrick's Day.

If Trump is still POTUS in April it's going to be German or Russian history month.

Hasn't March been Irish-American history month for a while now? I don't get what the deal is here.
03-05-2017 , 03:22 PM
https://betterdwelling.com/vacant-ho...ting-60-tax/#_

Paris triples its tax on empty homes, from 20% fair market rent to 60% in order to discourage real estate speculation and encourage renting.

While SF has fewer overall vacant homes, their vacant homes as percentage of overall homes is about the same. New York City is off the charts.

Think this solves anything? Will people be more likely to rent out homes or live in them under this kind of tax system? Will this apply some downward force on market prices for homes/rents?

My Grandma was a pretty similar story. Catholic, fell in love with Ireland with the big early-mid-century PR push they did. She had Irish themed everything all over her house. She went to Ireland as I believe her only international trip.

My Mom and Uncle traced the genealogy. Turns out she's more German than anything else.
