Sorry, but she was never, ever beating Macron and probably needed a perfect storm of a 2nd round vs. Fillon to have any chance. She's been polling between 35-40% the entire year, and before Trump took office.

Also, I think if there was a scenario where she was polling >45% in the 2nd tour, then France would have turned out over 80% instead of 84%, but it's been obvious that Macron would win pretty for the entire 2 weeks. She had very miniscule support in any medium sized or larger French city not touching the Mediterranean.

Macron - 66.1% of those who made a choice, 43.6% of voters
Le Pen - 33.9% of those who made a choice, 22.4% of voters
No one - 34% of voters, 25.4% didn't show up, 8.6% voted blanc or null (not sure of the difference)

Le Pen got the largest FN vote in French history, but she still probably needs to almost double the number of people willing to vote for her to win. She got 10.6 million votes, Hollande won a very close election getting 18 million votes in 2012. She got 6.4 million votes in the first round 5 years ago.
