Fillon could drop out today. He canceled an event at the last minute, there are lots of rumors about judges and arrests, he's currently meeting with his party's big players and he will make an announcement soon. JUPPE is aleeady surging back up on betting markets.

yeah, such an insane campaign. I hope he sticks to his guns and push the pedals.

edit: looks like it went as planned. Good for Macron.

Looks like France is getting the option a majority of Americans wanted in 2016, a new term for Obama:

It's pretty bad news for Europe if EU takes a big political hit just as the US start with mercantilist tendencies. It would probably be a solid short term boost for US growth, however (but in the long term probably favoring China and India more).

I mean the last time it happened (Bush 2003 steel tariffs) EU just threatened sanctions towards US swing states, and boy were they lifted quickly.

Fillon is turning more and more into Trump. Booing journalists / judges / claiming conspiracies against him at its rallies. He is going full populist à la Le Pen. That is sad because we need a strong conservative party in France.

Yes, tweeting pictures of decapited bodies is a no-no (think of the children!). The Le Pen family gets prosecuted a lot for things like that and for gas chamber jokes.

There's a major cultural difference in how to deal with toxic hateful idiots: France prosecutes them, the USA elect them president.

Buddy, the jury's still out on whether you elect them president. Your high ground may disappear in two months.

this election is hilarious (as long as le pen doesnt end up winning)

holy ****. That poll is huge news. There have been people leaving Fillon's campaign left and right the last 24 hours. That poll could be what tips Fillon to stop the carnage. I'd love a Macron / Juppé in the run off. The debates would be great and I definitely could see some kind of national coalition with the 2.

it's probably an outlier, so take it with a grain of salt, but it's still interesting

Can someone post USA equivalencies to the Big 3.

Le Pen = Trump
Macron = Corey Booker (I know Booker isn't an IBanker but he's cozy with them)
Fillion = a dirty Kasich/Huntsman?

Is this reasonably close?

Le Pen is more "serious" than Trump and I think more to the left on the economy

Macron I would say is close to Hillary policy wise, but with charisma and without scandals and establishment label

Fillon is Margret Thatcher with a penis

Rucksack is right but even then, it's nearly impossible to compare the two systems. We just don't share the same values. For exemple, free enterprise in France is not something everyone gets behind like in the US.

Most Americans agree that shouting fire in a crowded theater can have deadly consequences. Many Europeans also think that shouting fire on twitter can have violent or deadly consequences.

Wow really seems like Fillon is done!

Doesn't that basically mean that Le Pen is done too? Her only chance was against rightwinger Fillon damaged by scandals, Hollande or some extreme leftist. Now it's gonna be Macron or Juppé...surprised her odds are still over 20%

That's not even shouting fire, though. That's showing a graphic picture of a burned-out building.

I haven't seen the pictures and assumed they contained some hate speech.

One of the images was of the decapitated body of US journalist James Foley, while others showed someone being driven over by a tank and a man on fire in a cage. The images were tweeted with the caption, “This is Daesh” (an Arabic acronym for IS).
So it wasn't hate speech but "dissemination of violent pictures". I don't know what the intention of the specific law is she is being charged with. Maybe a french poster can chime in.
If it is to prevent minors to see these types of images I might still be okay with criminal charges.

Gotta think most of Le Pen's equity is of the "well, crazy, unexplainable right wing ****'s been happening lately, so maybe it happens again" variety, but I don't see how she has much of a shot.

It's bizarre that Juppé got smoked 66-34% in the primary by Fillon, but now all of a sudden he's polling well. How does he not beat Fillon handily if he's this popular?
03-03-2017 , 03:42 PM
I'm afraid Fillon does something really stupid. His world is crumbling as we speak. François, don't.

Fillon's campaign manager just quit. Looks like the end is near. Be interesting to see how Fillon supporters react. Got to think some of them will go to Le Pen and some will stay at home.

Juppé v Macron v Le Pen is going to be very interesting. Think Juppé makes it harder for Macron.
