Shocking the things that happen when you give a bunch of wanna-be cowboys a gun, badge, and the authority to be reckless, trigger-happy loons with basically no real consequences for all but the most egregious offenses and no accountability for how they treat people and conduct their job. Government failure at its finest.
It was a highly stressed situation and perhaps police were thinking Benoit was holding a gun instead of a camera, but that still does not justify destroying the phone.
so he was going to step on a gun to destroy it? This paragraph makes zero sense. The only explanation is that he wanted it destroyed.
Decided to go out at about 3:45 am Saturday night (technically early Sunday) to get some food...I keep odd hours.
Upon finding everything closed, big surprise, on my way home I get pulled over on these little backroads leading to my neighborhood. I'm totally not surprised, for some reason this little area is like a police state, there are always cops everywhere and I haven't really figured out why, there's little to no crime in my area so I guess they are just bored.
He gives me some made up reason of "failure to maintain lane" (totally bogus) but upon seeing that I am in my pajamas basically and haven't been drinking or anything he lets me go with a "warning."
Basically I was guilty of being out at an odd time and place, so he was gonna find a reason to stop me.
Police officer in this one acts like my dog. Lets a bunch of bicyclists go by, but after a while he just can't resist himself anymore and has to take a swipe at one.
Once that's done you have to arrest the guy who filmed it.

It's like this in the town next to me for some reason. There's no real crime in either town. Just two very similar quiet medium sized towns. In my town, the cops really don't do anything. Mostly they stand in front of road work/tree-trimming and direct traffic. Maybe they grab up 3-4 DUI's a month on the weekend nights. Beyond that, you wouldn't even know they existed.
In the town next to me, there are cops EVERYWHERE. Always have people pulled over, often with multiple cop cars. They're always out and about, cruising around downtown. I started doing some of my grocery shopping there in the past couple of years, and in any given week, I see more people pulled over there than I've seen in the last 5 years in my town. It's totally bizarre.

They are generating revenue to pay their salaries.
Well at least he was booked into jail. He wasn't charged with murder immediately, but at least he was taken into custody.
Edit to add: I didn't research it, but the comments indicate he was then indicted. I don't know of being arrested for a lower charge and then indicted has any meaning.
Cops should be able to do what ever they want. A police state is a safe state, where the state is safe, and since the state is the people, the people are safe. You should embrace cops who corrupt the law. Corrupting the law enables the state to extend their powers further to do more good. Listen to what you feel, not what you think.
Somebody recruit this guy for the part of snarky jackass ASAP!
