Re: Law and Order 2

Sorta off topic but I'm going to pretend this is the old police thread. Last night had a dozen police come and question/search/assault me and a friend charging us under a misuse of drug act accusing us of supplying cannabis (which we didn't do) got searched and treated like crap, pretty much considered guilty as soon as they rush in. Seems so ridic. However I live in New Zealand not America so doubt this post really has relevance to anything.

Re: Law and Order 2

I guess these go here now:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...nt-attack.html

Cliffs:
15 Yr old girl, apparently drunk, fighting with mother at school.
Gets away from mother
Police arrive
Girl is walking away from police
Cop runs her down and SMASHES her the **** into the wall. (around the 1:55 mark on the youtube video, at the beginning of the news report video)

Obviously, this girl was no upstanding citizen, but I believe the Ray Lewis like tackle there is perhaps a tad excessive.

Radley Balko now at The Huffington Post on the case where Arizona cops fired a bunch of rounds and killed a Marine while serving a warrant:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0..._n_867020.html

cliffs: Lots of the official story has changed. Coverup in progress. Jose Guerena didn't fire first (official claim) because the safety was still on his weapon. No evidence of wrongdoing by Geurena, or reason for the warrant. His relative died in a home invasion.

Video of the raid:

This is the one where they kept the paramedics away from him for more than an hour. Dead men don't testify.

Re: Law and Order 2

Oh I thought I had posted this already but I just scrolled back and didn't see it.

Last week, friday afternoon we're at Junior's baseball game. I see the local news choppa passing overhead.

As we're leaving the game we pass a huge scene, cop cars everywhere, huge wreck, road blocked etc. I notice some of the cop cars are from Bartlett, which is odd because that's a suburb town pretty far from where the wreck was. So it was obvious this must have been a high speed chase that covered a pretty significant distance.

On the news that evening we got more details. The suspected crime that triggered this? Surely it was murder or rape or kidnapping, right?

Nope, it was shoplifting. Crab legs from a supermarket. And apparently this pursuit went through several residential neighborhoods, and the chase concluded about two blocks from a orthodox synagogue. And remember, this was late friday afternoon, the congregation was walking to services at the time. The crash ended in front of the home of a family that was literally walking out the door to go to services. It's basically a miracle that nobody was hurt.

Now, in between the shoplifting and the crash, however, there are some events that contributed to this.

* The suspects "threatened to kill" anyone that followed them out of the store.
* an officer (possibly a plainclothes detective) approached the suspects at a stop light a few blocks away, the suspects took off (and this is where the chase actually started)
* the day of the chase the news reported that the officer was struck by the suspects' vehicle (and this is apparently what the Bartlett PD used to justify their pursuit when they contacted the Memphis PD for permission to pursue into Memphis jurisdiction) but none of the reports since then have mentioned that.

The best part was in the newspaper a few days later, some guy wrote a letter to the editor pointing out how dangerous this was, and in the comments was this gem:

"you are Socialist that believe criminals should escape the law. My only regret was that the police were not firing their guns at the thieves. This is a typical response from a LIBERAL."

If there's one thing that I definitely associate with socialist regimes, it's being very lenient towards criminals: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital...ublic_of_China

Here is a really shameful part.
Quote:
Storie also defended the SWAT team's refusal to allow paramedics to access Guerena for more than hour. "They still don't know how many shooters are inside, how many guns are inside and they still have to assume that they will be ambushed if they walk in this house," Storie said.
earlier in the same piece
Quote:
They now acknowledge that not only did he not fire, the safety on his gun was still activated when he was killed. Guerena had no prior criminal record, and the police found nothing illegal in his home. After ushering out his wife and son, the police refused to allow paramedics to access Guerena for more than hour, leaving the young father to bleed to death, alone, in his own home.
It appears the went through the house and found the wife and child in the closet. Also since they were there, they would know the only shooters were outside the house. It is outrageous that these officers aren't currently being held awaiting trial for murder.

These scumbags lucked out in that they didn't kill his wife and child and have a real media frenzy on their hands.

Apparently dancing = protesting and protesting is illegal on federal parks. Funny. I thought the bill of rights applied everywhere in this country.

P.S. Thomas Jefferson is probably the President who would be the most outraged by this.

Cops: She asked to be arrested, then resisted

Quote:
A Delaware woman who demanded that state troopers take her to jail was later charged with resisting arrest, according to police. About 6 a.m. Saturday at the Super Lodge Motel, in New Castle, troopers responding to a complaint were approached by Teiera Rider, 20, who cursed at them while "demanding" to be taken to jail, police said.

When she refused to calm down, troopers said, they heeded her wishes and placed her under arrest.

But instead of going quietly, Rider allegedly kicked and spit at troopers as they did exactly what she'd asked them to do - arrest her.

Where does this story fall in the "Voluntary Interaction" argument?
