It's hilarious that we have coffee monster saying IM ducking questions when dblbarrel has been using the "you hate cops therefore I'm not discuss any police issues with you" for like the last three pages and here you are apologizing for him.

I'd ask the same of you. well, with a few substitutions, of course.

I've merely pointed out, unanswered, that your "catch them tomorrow" plan really doesn't work all that well, since, well, who the **** are we chasing? Also, the whole "hey, only chase offenders who've committed x doesn't work either. It sounds lovely on paper but in the real world, you have no idea what they've committed to cause them to fail to stop until they actually stop.

So wait until you catch them actually doing something rather than driving with a tail light out.

And then watch certain people complain when the logical conclusion of your argument comes about.

Ok bk. Please stop ranting about general traffic enforcement. Obviously your feelings about too many people being traffic stopped in general are warranted.

We're talking about chasing. I thought everyone had conceded that they all agree with the general assumption the running person was guilty of more than a traffic infraction.

Did you forget making all the "oh so you want cops to have no ability to do anything?" posts?

Obv they don't want the police able to do anything, hence the quotes. I've been around here enough to know who's pushing what agenda... Even the agenda you're pushing.

You didn't come outright with it ITT, however fortunately for me, this isn't the only thread I follow closely.

When I forget to make a deposit on my toll tag, they mail me a ticket. Maybe the owner of a.car can be strictly liable for traffic citations and traffic stops can be restricted to actual crimes.

Yeah I mean it's like over 90% of cars on the road are stolen or something.

I don't like it too much, but it'd be kind of a "will of the people" solution. It is, however, a realistic solution.

It's completely reasonable to not feel like it's worth rehashing the "who needs the police" debate when other questions emerge. It's easy for me to think that, for example, public policy considerations should include the lives of the suspect and passengers, while still believing that pulling people over for violating traffic law is reasonable.

It's pointless to discuss the finer points of policy regarding police chases with someone who doesn't think the police should pull people over for violating traffic laws. That much is obvious to me.

Man Held in Solitary Confinement 2 Years After DWI Gets $22M
"Stephen Slevin was arrested in August of 2005 for driving while intoxicated, according to NBC station KOB.com. He said he never got a trial and spent the entire time languishing in solitary, even pulling his own tooth when he was denied dental care."

WTF, they just forgot about him?
01-28-2012 , 08:32 PM
Came here to post that article, holy ****, that is one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever read in my entire life

Article mentions something like "its unclear if anyone is facing suspension or losing their job over this as prison does not release personnel info..."

Uhhh....losing their job? How about execution, or at the very least, solitary confinement? Haditha is what happens when you view a nationality or a race as less than human. This story is what happens when you view prisoners as less than human. How many people must have been at least nominally involved in this guys care over the course of 2 years, and just couldnt ****ing be bothered to suss things out or see wtf was going on

Our prison system is a joke and everyone involved in it should reevaluate their lives
