So is shouting "he is going for my gun" considered along the same lines as shouting fire in a crowded theater? Experience would seem to show us that it is far, far deadlier. Is it inciting a police shooting? Attempted murder?

Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg announced Wednesday that a grand jury concluded Raja’s use of force was unjustified. Documents released Wednesday allege that Raja never identified himself to Jones as a police officer as he drove up to the stranded motorist, yelled commands and then opened fire.
Quote:
Charging documents released Wednesday by prosecutors state that: According to an audio recording of the interaction, at no point did Raja identify himself to Jones as a police officer; he was not wearing his tactical vest identifying himself as a police officer; and Raja’s vehicle was not immediately distinguishable as a police vehicle. Prosecutors say Raja drove his unmarked van the wrong way down the interstate off-ramp in order to confront Jones about 3:15 a.m.
Quote:
According to the transcript included in the charging documents, Raja asked Jones several times if he was “good,” before transitioning to demanding he put his hands in the air.

Raja: You good?

Jones: I’m good.

Raja: Really?

Jones: Yeah, I’m good.

Raja: Really?

Jones: Yeah.

Raja: Get your f—ing hands up! Get your f—ing hands up!

Jones: Hold on!

Raja: Get your f—ing hands up! Drop!

Then, according to the documents, Raja fired three shots in rapid succession, prompting an AT&T call center operator who had been on the phone with Jones as he waited for the tow truck to exclaim “Oh my gosh!” Then, 10 seconds later, Raja fired three more shots.

Prosecutors say that Raja then called 911, about 30 seconds after firing his last round.

“I came out, I saw him come out with a handgun,” Raja told the 911 dispatcher. “I gave him commands, I identified myself, and he turned, pointed the gun at me and started running. I shot him.”

When other officers arrived at the scene, they found Jones’s body about 192 feet away from his car. Jones’s gun was found between him and the car, about 72 feet away from the vehicle.
Without the bolded the police officer looks exactly like a guy who's going to rob him.

What would have happened if Jones shot Raja first? Raja pulled up on him in a plain white van, in plain clothes, Doesn't identify himself as a cop, points a gun at Jones, and tells him to put his hands up. What happens to Jones if he ends up drawing and shooting Raja? Florida is a stand your ground state, right?

Theoretically Jones would be justified... I think.

Keeps presumption of innocence for criminal liability, of course. But a pattern of missing footage can be introduced as evidence of knowingly covering up a crime.
It needs to be a criminal offense along the lines of attempting to pervert the cause of justice to deliberately avoid recording.

Plus the kid's dad was a cop in a neighbouring department. Were it not for that fact, chances are the dirty cop would have gotten away with it.

It's like Square but for asset forfeiture

Now, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a device that also allows them to seize money in your bank account or on prepaid cards.

It's called an ERAD, or Electronic Recovery and Access to Data machine, and state police began using 16 of them last month.

Here's how it works. If a trooper suspects you may have money tied to some type of crime, the highway patrol can scan any cards you have and seize the money.
Quote:
News 9 obtained a copy of the contract with the state.

It shows the state is paying ERAD Group Inc., $5,000 for the software and scanners, then 7.7 percent of all the cash the highway patrol seizes.

An exec for a big tech company was riding his bike on Mulholland, got killed by an LA sheriff's deputy who was working on his computer. Deputy lied about circumstances. They, of course, didn't prosecute because "his boss wanted him to finish reports as soon as possible".

So being in a hurry now excuses vehicular homicide and lying on a police report as long as you have a badge.

A Coosada man was arrested Tuesday after response to a video of his encounter with Wetumpka police officers created "chaos" and jammed the police department's phone system, according to the police department.

Wetumpka police claim Lynwood Keith Golden, who operates the YouTube page Bama Camera, encouraged viewers of his video to contact the police department.

The police department then received a barrage of "obscene, threatening and racially motivated" phone calls that crippled the phone system, police said. The response also forced the department to shut down its Facebook page.

Callers to the Wetumpka Police Department on Wednesday are greeted with the message: "Due to a technical difficulty, we can't accept your call at this time."

Golden was charged with interference with public safety communications due to the "chaos" his video created.

According to a video on Bama Camera, Golden filmed outside the Wetumpka Police Department headquarters on June 2 to exercise his First Amendment rights. He told officers he was a journalist working on a story.

The video shows several police officers approach Golden and ask him his name and why he was filming.

"I don't care about your First Amendment rights," one officer said. "I am asking why you are filming.

"I don't know if you are terrorist," another officer said.

Wetumpka police claims Golden refused to show officers his identification.

"Mr. Golden refused to identify himself or his reasoning for the film, so his actions were deemed suspicious to the officers," the city of Wetumpka stated in a press release. "After a brief investigation, Mr. Golden was deemed to be no immediate threat and released at that time."

Golden was arrested after he allegedly asked people "to begin mass communications" against the department.

You know those terrorists are well known for citing Alabama law. Is kind of dumb to ask his followers to contact the police department though.

Hide evidence in the highest profile case in the country... what can go wrong?

Worst part is that since the mob is on the side of the prosecution nobody will care, and that this is endemic in the system will be totally unaddressed.

Heh, sorry for the late response, but:

It's mostly my fault but you're not understanding. Basically, imo Rice being a really big kid and having a realistic replica (i.e. 'man with a gun') makes the cops' actions worse and more inexcusable, not the opposite.

I've tried to come up with a succinct way to explain this for the past 3 years but I'm not there yet. But one partial way to put it and add on to some stuff i've said before:

Cops shooting a tiny smiling kid with a neon water pistol would be a bizarre fluke or 'accident', a fantasyland thing, but Rice was no accident. The cops saw a black 'man' with a 'gun' and summarily executed him. Considering we have video that's not hyperbole. And it's way more disturbing imo. That he turned out to be a kid that just hit a growth spurt, with an airsoft replica, is just anti-icing on the anti-cake to further highlight the cops' ineptitude and the things fundamentally broken in our society with regards to race, freedom, gun control, the list could go on.

The anti-cherry on the bottom is that pro-freedom and pro-gun people are on the ****ing cops' side! We have a black 'man' with a 'gun' and he's summarily executed. Where's the ****ing freedom there?

p.s. The part about 'toy' is that an airsoft replica stretches the definition of 'toy' but... eh. They have those little orange neon indicators and i'm almost certain the cops tampered with evidence and removed it.

I assume the 'too' refers to the 2nd amendment, so eli5 any conceivable scenario where a person in Rice's situation gets executed.

The US is filled with guns. Guns are coming in the windows, but if the wrong person touches one they're immediately put down?

Because to me a reasonable response by the cops to seeing Rice would be to chuckle and say, "Lawl, only in America!" I am only like 1-2% joking.

Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard convicted on 12 of 23 states ethics charges: faces up to 20 years in prison for each count.

http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/201...d_dark_da.html
Quote:
With Hubbard's conviction on 12 of the 23 counts he was facing, he is automatically removed from office.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Luther Strange -- whose office prosecuted Hubbard -- said in a statement that it was a "good day for the rule of law in our state."

Ford's full statement:

"This is a dark day for Alabama. Mike Hubbard led Republicans to a supermajority on a platform of cleaning up corruption in Montgomery. But instead of cleaning up corruption, Mike Hubbard and the Republican leadership in all three branches of our government have embraced corruption. They have forgotten they are supposed to serve the people, and not the other way around."
Unfortunately it's the state prosecuting him, not the Feds. We'll have to come back around to this to see if he gets a real sentence or if he gets off with a slap on the wrist. With all the attention on this case, it's possible he'll get a decent sentence but I'm not holding my breath.

Apparently the Oakland PD is a cesspool.

They've gone through 3 police Chiefs in a month or so, have an investigation into racists texts sent by officers, an investigation into a girlfriend of a police officer writing reports for the officers, and sex trafficking and/or abuse involving at least 14 cops and their superiors.

Jesus, don't forget the most important part, that led to the rest of this, a cop killed his wife, a bunch of other cops helped him cover it up and make it look like suicide, then the cop actually committed real suicide and left a note implicating everyone in the kiddie rape.
