You once asserted that working for a teachers union would be more controversial ITF than representing police. Care to rethink that position?

Clicked on that article and BAM

When did a police officer getting shot become breaking news? Shoving it in our face indeed.

I think it depends on how we define controversial here. With a police union I think it'd be me vs like everyone else where a teacher union would be more divisive.

Fair enough.

Sometimes the stupid is just too painful,

From a recent NYT editorial
Quote:
[De Blasio] should invite the Justice Department to determine if the police are guilty of civil rights violations in withdrawing policing from minority communities.
So, not shooting minorities is now a civil rights violation? These people really need to stop seeing blacks as criminals who instantly revert to their base nature without someone in a magical blue suit watching them every second.

Extended video of the Tamir Rice shooting. Shows the police throwing Tamir's 14 year old sister to the ground and cuffing her at around 2 mins. Then, locking her in the back of the car while her brother dies on the ground. 8 minutes til EMS arrive while 5 Officers just stand around. Gross.

Cliffs: guy misses a court date for a DWI. After 4 months police get around to serving a warrant but the guy won't give up, so they seige his house for 61 hours. Eventually using armored vehicles to knock down most of it before eventually finding him dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Now the rest of his family is homeless, but the cops got to play with their toys.

A Las Vegas police detective was allowed to keep his job despite posting photos of him aiming a gun at an image of Barack Obama and calling for "race war," the Las Vegas Sun reported on Monday.

“Let’s just get this over! Race war, Civil, Revolution? Bring it! I’m about as fed up as a man (American, Christian, White, Heterosexual) can get!” Detective Bobby Kinch wrote on his Facebook page in 2013, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

He also reportedly posted photos of himself pointing a gun at a commemorative plate of the President, which he received for his birthday as a gag gift.

Kinch told the Sun he had been taken out of context and said he would merely complain about gun control laws and the "knockout game."
Note: the knockout game doesn't exist.

Sounds like a real american hero. Don't forget, if you don't want a cop to kill you, you gotta show total respect for their authority but if a cop posts pictures of him targeting obama, no biggie that's just free speech man, and you're taking him out of context anyway obv.

Free range children is an unfortunate name though

Had a custody case recently (in Maryland!) where one of the mom's stated reasons why the dad was an unfit parent was that he once let their 8-year-old daughter go to the playground literally right around the corner from his house by herself. CPS got involved. Absolutely ridiculous.

I just don't understand that ****. As a volunteer for about 4 hours per week at a children's hospital I'd see a case where they wanted CPS involved for abuse but couldn't get them involved about once a month. My wife also reported someone for literally not feeding their kids and they took no action.

How the hell do they have time for this ****? I'd guess there's some sort of ****ed up priorities in play.

It's completely ridiculous. I almost think the worst part of that case is that someone actually called the police. You have to be a special kind of moron to call the police just because a 10 year old is walking alone in a suburbian neighbourhood.

Also,

Quote:
The police asked for the father’s ID and when he refused, called six patrol cars as backup. Alexander went upstairs and the police called out that if he came down with anything else in his hand “shots would be fired,” according to Alexander.
Once again the police are the ones escalating the situation and threatening to shoot in situations where the suspect hasn't even shown any kinds of aggresions nor any possession of weapons. And 6 ****ing police cars? What a waste of tax dollars.

****ing over normal people is probably a lot lower-stress than dealing with violent abusers and troubled children.
01-16-2015 , 12:36 PM
I don't think the people who called the cops are complete morons... at least they honestly had the kids safety in mind. The cops threatening to shoot people and CPS threatening to take their kids away do not.
01-16-2015 , 12:53 PM
These days, it's pretty ****ing dumb to call the police unless there's a genuinely life or death situation or you've been the victim of a crime.
