That's bull****, but the code enforcement stories are even dumber than the legit use of force stories to me, with the exception of getting the hardcore #****DAPOPO crowd furious, which is always amusing.

Although its pretty retarded that it came about because police thought he was smoking a marijuana cigarette.

I guess its true - marijuana does kill.

[Paul J. Browne, the chief police spokesman] said that two officers initially approached the man because he appeared to be smoking marijuana. When the officers tried to arrest the man, he stuck a marijuana cigarette in his pocket, raised the knife over his head and started to put on a blue bandanna.
DB, do you really have such a shallow understanding of the world?

Is it possible that this man was unstable enough that he would have eventually had a dangerous conflict with police and/or others? Sure. But in this case its clear that the conflict arose over marijuana.

Re: Law and Order 2

Since you want to get all deep into this, I'd say it's rather fortunate that this arose over a joint, in a conflict with cops, rather than say a disagreement with some unfortunately unarmed fast food worker over a botched Big Mac order.

pvn is gonna go furious here, but that man showed a propensity for violence IMO.

While the police released no details about the victim, some of those who work in Times Square said they had seen him before. Joshua, 23, who sells tickets to comedy shows, said that he thought the man was a regular in the area who often wore a T-shirt that said “Ninjas killed my family” and asked tourists for money.

Joshua, who declined to give his last name, also said that the man would often dress as a ninja.

Ninja, please.

If you fire a joint up on the street, the cops are going to confront you. It's kind of the law.

Re: Law and Order 2

I guess we should just go further and have police actively antagonize citizens. That way whenever someone freaks out they can take care of them to prevent potential future outbursts.

I'm actually not faulting the police at all for their actions in this case (I guess my first post could be read that I was - but I didn't mean it that way).

Stupid drug laws increase the number of confrontations between police and people - And less confrontations between citizens and police seems like a good thing to me.

I think we all agree the drug laws are bad.

Well, except for two or three of the hardcore nanny staters who support the Bloomberg Soda ban.

The marijuana was neither the proximate nor the ultimate cause of his death. You have work to do if you want to claim we should somehow put extra significance on it anyway.
