Chances I would go to jail if I just stepped outside and fired a gun at the ground?

Now if PETA ran the world...
Odds go way up if that pharmacist were to shoot a police dog though.

Well odds are if you shoot a police dog that you're already in a situation where you're going to jail.

guns are dangerous and must be banned, but when a cop shoots his gun for no reason in a public park it's no big deal

Not necessarily if you take a grando-like stance on the "0.0000001%" chance that dog might harm you or your kids.

hyperbole ftw

So the guy seen punching a woman in the face below got acquitted recently:

Oh and yeah, the judge is married to a Philadelphia Police Officer and supported by the police union. Lol philadelphia.

This argument is ridiculous.

Three things:

- You may shoot a dog if you have a right to be where you are and it's in pretty much any conceivable way threatening you.

- As Grando said, if you're shooting at a police dog, you probably were going to jail, although now you're probably going to the hospital, because it's extremely difficult for me to tell you're shooting at the dog and not me, so I'll be shooting you.

- Eric, in situations where a police dog is just running wild and no handler is in sight, you can actually get away with shooting it to protect yourself. I've seen it done.

I totally agree that's ridiculous.

Bro, it's a dog.

If you're some kind of weird hippy who views dogs and humans as equals, I'm sorry to have offended your sensibilities, but the rest of the country disagrees.

Control your dog.

I'm pretty sure if this proposed law was put to a vote:

It would be defeated soundly.

That attitude sure does explain a lot, though.
03-01-2013 , 04:55 PM
So you believe that shooting dogs should be held to similar standards to shooting humans?

That is quite an "interesting" position I suppose.
03-01-2013 , 05:00 PM
Not at all, there's far less reason to shoot a dog in almost all cases. Yes, sometimes you may actually run into a dog that is a threat. When that's the case I have no problems. When you bust down somebody's door in the night and shoot their black labs, yeah, you should be held to a better standard than 'the deputies who entered Calvo's home "apparently felt threatened" by the dogs.'

No one's discussing raids.

We're discussing what an armed citizen could legally do if a strange dog started running toward their children at the park.
03-01-2013 , 05:04 PM
I wouldn't want to discuss raids either. Or traffic stops, or just being out in the middle of the street during a dog show. Or in some ladies driveway because you're lost.
03-01-2013 , 05:09 PM
I'm not sure if you're so ignorant you have no idea how poorly informed you are on raids, or so blind that you're thinking I'm going to defend everything the police do, but in either event it's rather funny to watch, so please proceed.

Meh, I could have shot hundreds of dogs legally if I wanted to by now. Unless the dog is aggressive, which by the third party accounts the dog didn't seem to be then shooing it, kicking it or whatever works just fine. No need to kill every dog that comes around without an owner.

Well of course.

But that becomes an ethics question.

I agree btw there's just not really much evidence that this dog needed killing. That being said, he shouldn't be prosecuted either.

Whatever the legalities, that dude is a pure pussy. It's a 45lb dog, if its getting testy, kick the bitch. 45 lbs

Wonder how much the kid weighed?
