Best quote from the article, from the officer who gave the statement:

Quote:
Saunders said if there is any wrongdoing, the department will say so.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement determined Trooper Daniel Cole's "use of force" was justified when he tased the woman last September at the FHP Pinellas Park Substation and cleared him of wrongdoing.

The fleeing woman, Danielle Maudsley, 20, suffered severe brain damage after hitting her head on the concrete and has been in a persistent vegetative state ever since.

The video shows Maudsley fleeing a back door of the substation with Cole following closely behind.

Maudsley was arrested for her alleged involvement in two hit-and-run crashes and driving without a license.

Cole brought Maudsley to the substation to complete his paperwork before taking her to the Pinellas County Jail, according to FHP reports.

As she enters the parking lot, Cole deploys his taser and Maudsley hits the ground hard, with her head slamming into the asphalt.

"What were you thinking? What are you, stupid?," Cole can be heard asking Maudsley on the video.
"I can't get up," said Maudsley.
"I don't want you to get up," said Cole.
"I can't get up," Maudsley said again. The last words Maudsley has spoken since being tasered.

On the video, Maudsley loses consciousness about two minutes after hitting her head.
Maudsley's mother said the trooper should have used other means to stop her daughter from fleeing.
"He was right behind her. He could've reached out," Maudsley said. "It was unnecessary."

Same police officer from above, gets into a firefight and shoots the owner of a cemetery. No charges filed, but I wonder if he ghana get out of this one too...

First, regardless of the blowhard histrionics, that taser story was justified as well as a freak accident.

This story seems to be a completely different animal.

I don't like the fact that they already seem to be starting with the "He had a weapon" punt play.

Any time you read the police shot someone for having a gun, you need to ask yourself "and?" Because having a gun is not good reason to shoot someone. When you hear that, you can nearly always assume that the cops ****ed up, otherwise you hear much clearer stories such as "He pointed a gun at Deputies" etc.

this is apparently the first thing that someone "heard on the internet" that turned out to be true.

Whoa, possible bias here. Feds say that if only the child were in their care, child would be fine. No mention as to how the mother was able to handle a child for all of just 14 years.

I hate when this absurd child custody/city ordinance stuff ends up in the L&O2 thread.

Hate to hear it for the family. End DFCS now.
12-08-2012 , 01:56 PM
Ending DFCS is obviously dumb, they do far too little than too much ime.

Now, what is ****ed up here is the health care side of it, where the hospital is pushing desperately sick people out because they're losing money.

Hey look, it's an ikes' post I completely agree with!
12-10-2012 , 07:22 PM
I just went with the assumption ikes had no idea what he was discussing and ignored that, rather than getting into a massive ikes derail. I was obviously being hyperbolic with the whole "end DFACS" thing, but they do some dumb ****.

I've seen both cases of inaction where action needed to be taken and action needlessly taken.

Interesting story here.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/n...,5128410.story

from the article
"Two suspected robbers believed to be targeting an alleged home-based marijuana growing operation were killed in a shootout on the first day of legal marijuana in Washington state, authorities said. The 35-year-old homeowner told detectives he shot the masked intruders Thursday after they broke into his home near Puyallup, Pierce County Sheriff spokesman Ed Troyer said, according Komonews.com. Troyer told the news outlet that the masked men most likely sought to grab the pot and maybe cash"

It shd be noted the homeowners 9 year old son was in the house during the shootout. Also the homeowner was detained due to an illegal growing operation ( Growing is technically still illegal as of now in Washington) but the man has since been released

Of course the amount of gun deaths or violence related to alcohol or prescription pills is ten fold that of gun violence related to cannabis.

Anyways I felt It was a good thing the homeowner was prepared to defend himself and his cannabis

Wrong thread?

Nah.

When seconds count, the police are minutes away is always a good lesson.

I've only seen cases of overreaction in the media. I've seen not enough done probably once a month myself, and when my wife worked in a different area I got to hear about it every week.
