@Aussies: is the 50 Year Storm an actual thing? I saw it mentioned in this documentary but have never confirmed with an actual Australian

There are plenty of incredible beaches in the UK if you can time your visit so it coincides with the sun. OAFK's pic reminds me of the Gower Peninsular.

EDIT: makes no sense now microbet's deleted his post.

The Midwest is having nice weather lately. Come by this weekend and see the Troy Strawberry festival, y'all.

I've never been to LA but I've been told the water isn't nearly as warm as one might expect, even in the summer. That said, this is coming from someone who lived on the Caribbean so the bias is real.

Well yea, apart from the six months it's well above that.

Obviously dont come here in February.

FWIW those are some of the highest ATs in the UK outside of urban heat traps.

Also that is one of our ugliest tourist trap beaches.

Never posting the locals only gold on interweb.

Personally, I enjoy wine tasting in Sonoma with family around Thanksgiving. If the weather's not so great that time of year though I might have to put on a sweater

Great place to take in some theatre.

Hurricane season begins today! I'm really encouraged by the fact that we still have no FEMA director (though whoever he picks will undoubtedly be awful so maybe that's a good thing)

This anecdote may have come up here before, but anyway I was watching a yt video that referred to this story about Kurt Gödel, the famous logician and mathematician

Quote:
On December 5, 1947, Einstein and Morgenstern accompanied Gödel to his U.S. citizenship exam, where they acted as witnesses. Gödel had confided in them that he had discovered an inconsistency in the U.S. Constitution that could allow the U.S. to become a dictatorship. Einstein and Morgenstern were concerned that their friend's unpredictable behavior might jeopardize his application. Fortunately, the judge turned out to be Phillip Forman, who knew Einstein and had administered the oath at Einstein's own citizenship hearing. Everything went smoothly until Forman happened to ask Gödel if he thought a dictatorship like the Nazi regime could happen in the U.S. Gödel then started to explain his discovery to Forman. Forman understood what was going on, cut Gödel off, and moved the hearing on to other questions and a routine conclusion.[19][20]

One of the citations is to Morgenstern's 3 page written account, which is in the pdf linked below. It doesn't have details of Gödel's dictatorship idea but it was fun to read, in a Comey's memo kind of way.

Seriously. I sometimes have to turn on the heat that time of year.

It's a theatre for locals only, and you have to produce an authentic Cornish accent and home made Cornish pasty to get in.

The water on the west coast is generally pretty cold and unless you're a surfer or a little kid you're generally not swimming unless it's a pretty hot day. Aside from being scenic the nice thing about being close to the water and it being cool water is the air temperature in SoCal near the ocean.

That said, I spend some time in 130 degree attics in the SF valley, so I get my fair share of being uncomfortable.

Minack open air theatre Porthcurno.

Which is also where the victorian interwebs was based, or geet big cable station.

During WW2 the beach at Porthcurno, which is stunning, had flame throwers secretly hidden on it and was one of the most heavily militarised beaches in the UK due to the cable station there, it's where the telegraph cables from USA and many other places came ashore.

In the future people may be bragging about how far they live from the sea.

I have to say, California is pretty damn awesome. They basically have their own tax system, which is better because it doesn't favor capital over labor and is quite progressive. They have their own environmental regulation system, and it works. The social safety net is wide and efficient. They are the most tolerant state in the union socially. **** if I could blame 'em for peacing out from USA #1

https://www.rt.com/usa/390222-autism...amin-symptoms/

Researcher Dr Robert Naviaux of the San Diego School of Medicine gave suramin, a drug first developed in 1916, to 10 autistic boys between the ages of five and 14, and noted transformative results.

"After the single dose, it was almost like a roadblock had been released," he said. “If the future studies show that there’s continued health benefits, this could be a game-changer for families with autism.”

lol coasts. When trouble comes, nobody says "Run to the beach!" Inland hills are where it's at. And small, tasteful mountains. Not like those garish monstrosities out west. And no matter where you live, if you don't have primarily deciduous trees your climate is teh suck.

Would imagine most people in Cornwall live higher above sea level than most people in London.

This includes coasts, but still.

They tend to say it all the other times, all those times no one is saying run to the hills, like 99% of the time.

That said, where I live, got some good hills.

Also GOAT zombie survival base. The houses you can just make out in the background is my home town.

First off, while watching the spouse play the new zelda I came up with a great name: CalamityGhostman

Second, I have a third interview next week (of four?!) and I don't know if I'm qualified for the job but they keep calling me back. If I get the job, I'd be making more than double the highest I've ever made in my life.

So much anxious.
