I always figured that with MD's just getting into an accredited school means you're getting a good job. That is certainly not the case with the law, which in my experience is the pinnacle of prestige whoreism. I have friends who unfortunately went in blind and decided to attend tier 4 schools who are lamenting that decision today. They're over $150k in debt and have virtually no job prospects, despite having done well throughout law school and passed the bar exam.

gmat doesn't seem to have quite the same impact. it's more like once u get past a certain score, then u are considered for admissions. avg gmat scores from hbs and like #10 or #15 aren't that much diff it's just that hbs guys got 3.7+ gpa and work at goldman, bain etc but just acing the test by itself won't get you in anywhere inside top 20 prob. and being a chick helps.
