Re: June life thread

So my central air went out and I need to replace the whole system. My furnace is 23 years old but I haven't had a problem. The guy says it will save me a lot on installation to have them replaced together, and I guess the conventional wisdom is a furnace can go any time >20 years. Should I do both or just the AC and wait on the furnace? This is probably the difference between spending my emergency savings and having to open a small HELOC.

Re: June life thread

I'd go with the furnace too.... you should get higher efficiency with a new one.

I'm hoping to get thru this year with my existing units.... both sitting at 24 yrs old right now.

*fingers crossed*

Ah, June. I should get results on like four writing contests I've entered in the past six months, including what would be a nice sip from the government teat. June could be awesome.

Re: June life thread

just do the AC, furnace could last you another billion years for all you know.

if it goes out..guess what, you can still replace it anyways.

Let's see some numbers. What the difference in price between just doing each separate vs the combo deal?

Re: June life thread

Any of you guys play poker any more? I found a sweet, private club not too far away. First appearance in a $40 rebuy I did a 3 way chop for $1180. There's a PLO donkament tomorrow with $1-2 PLO that I'm salivating over playing tomorrow.

New Carrier model#24ABB330 2.5 ton condenser uncased coil installed $3,526

New Carrier Comfort series 90% eff furnace 80,000btu installed $3,952

Total separate $7,478

Both installed together $7,178

These are not the cheapest guys in town but the have >90 positive reviews on angieslist with no negatives

One one hand it's a pain in the ass for me to be at home to have work done. I may have to take a vacation day or something so combining jobs is +EV. Also I don't want the furnace to go out in the middle of winter when I could get gouged.

On the other hand we're in the middle of a shale boom and getting something more efficient probably isn't going to save me a huge amount of money since gas is so cheap, and the only issue I've had with the furnace in 5 years was something clogging the line to the pilot light once

Re: June life thread

kid at the baseball game today got dem haters FURIOUS.

littlest kid on the team, typical not-really-very-athletic barely-interested first-grader type. well he hits the ball straight to this super-jock-wannabe kid playing 1st base. jock kid bobbles the ball twice and little kid barely beats him to the bag.

little kid stands on the bag doing a dance, singing "I'm sexy and I know it." jock kid is steaming.

next batter hits a grounder right down the middle. pitcher picks it up and turns to 2nd base. 2nd baseman and shortstop are both picking their nose waiting for the other to cover the bag (standard at this level). pitcher finally decides to run to the bag, but little kid again barely beats him. Pitcher is absolutely FURIOUS and even argues with the ump.

1st/2nd grade baseball: serious business
