Re: Julying? Julying to me mang? July Life Thread

My kid wanted to download an iPad app. I gave it a cursory glance, noticed it was free and didn't appear to be too emotionally scarring, so I nodded to him.

He found the app, I typed in the password, he downloaded it and started playing it. Boring story, right?

A few days later, my wife came storming into the room and demanded to know who downloaded a hundred dollar game. Twice.

Apparently this 'free' game has add-on packs that run anywhere from $.99 to $99.99. It appears that he (accidentally?) downloaded TWO of the $99.99 add-on packs.

I've spent an hour trying to figure out how to get a refund for an iPad app with no luck so far. I tried phone support, but they charge for it, so **** them. I've tried to find the chat link but I think their chat personnel operate during banking hours. My stupid iTunes software on my main computer won't update properly to the newest version so that's not helping the situation.

If I don't get refunded for this, you might see me in the news next week. I'm close to losing it.

Also, I contacted my credit card company to see about refuting the charges, but the purchase hasn't officially hit yet. If all else fails I'm going to try to refute the charge, and i don't give a **** if I'm never able to purchase an apple product again. I never wanted to deal with the ****ers in the first place.

I think you're in trouble. If people could get their farmville money back because they regretted the decision Zynga would be nearly worthless I'm sure.

It has nothing to do with regretting, but merely a kid purchasing crap without your authorization. I sure hope if my 2 year old son presses the right combination of buttons on the remote to order on demand programming, I am getting that refunded.

A lot of these app game companies are super shady and rely on kids buying dumb stuff in games and parents not having proper security settings to keep in-game purchases blocked.

If this happens I'm going to be furious beyond all measure. Mad enough to start some kinda movement, or keep asking for the same poor bastard at Apple customer support every day for a year, or find the corporate headquarters of the company that is at fault for this and do......something. Something that gives me $200 worth of contentment.

All I know is that apples T&C's are like 50 pages long. I assume they're covered here. Hope very much that I'm wrong though. They might refund just for the rep of it.

Yea, I've got a dumbass friend who purchased an app titled "Microsoft Word 2010 - Mastering in 24H" for $11.99, which shows up in the App store as "Microsoft Word 2010...".

He didn't read the app description, paid $11.99 for a tutorial of how to use Microsoft Word.

I don't think he ever got his $12 back.

That is really shady. That one should be easy to get a refund on given it is obvious what they are doing. Is it true there is no auto refund option on iDevices? That is crazy if so, way more so than the ridiculously short 15 minute auto refund the Play Store has.

As for the INAR problem googling around the start of the process seems to be:
http://gizmodo.com/5886683/how-to-ge...-the-app-store
the trick seems to be wording it well and hoping you get the right person dealing with the refund request.

$100 for an in app purchase on a free game is truly ridiculous though, you should have a decent chance of a refund. Go full righteous indignation, play up being a valued customer and say you feel like you were scammed by what the game did.

I agree, but the way they seem to be getting around it is to be thorough and totally honest in the App description.

I looked it up, took a couple screen caps:

I guess "not reading descriptions" is non refundable in the eyes of Apple.

I started following this scam around the time they got my buddy and what they'll do is put it up for sale, when the descriptions get low they'll pull it, then it goes up again. I'm not familiar with the inner workings of getting a product up in the App Store so I'd love input from any geeks we have on 2p2 who've sold products in the App Store.

If you read the ratings, you'll find 5 star ratings intermixed amongst the furious who didn't read the description.
