Weed is still measured in ounces here in the Midwest afaik.

Can confirm; I've seen a recent documentary on the subject.

I bought dope once in the States, kid was selling it by the gram. On the Strip in Vegas. Maybe for tourists, though I'd have thought at least half of tourism in Vegas would be domestic. I guess YMMV.

ETA in recent years the whole concept of 'measuring' dope has basically fallen out of favour here. You buy 'a fifty bag' and whatever's in that is what a fifty-bag is. Similar to the 'dime-bag' thing I suppose.

When last in the UK SWIM was sold skunk in grams. When SWIM made the call and asked if Henry and Louis were up for a beer the dealer had no idea wtf SWIM was talking about.

The only time I bought grams was when I was a broke ass high school student. Do like adults with jobs and stuff ever buy that little? It seems ridiculous.

I was on holiday in Vegas for like ten days. We bought three grams and had some to spare when we left. I presume buying by the individual gram is something you only find in tourist-heavy locations. I agree it doesn't make much sense otherwise.

And can you believe some liquor stores sell individual beers?!

If anyone has a relationship with spaceman, you should be able to contact him again now:

if any of you know who he is and feel that someone should be contacted, please do so or let me know the info and I will.

That's a good decision.

Florida teens who recorded drowning man will not be charged in his death

A group of Florida teens who taunted a drowning man while filming his death from afar will not be criminally charged, according to police.
In the more than two-minute long video, the five teen boys -- who are between the ages of 14 and 16 -- can be heard laughing as the man struggles to stay afloat, police say, in a pond near his family's Cocoa, Florida, home.

Instead of calling for help, the teens recorded the incident on a cell phone, chuckling during the victim's final moments.
The teens can be heard warning the man that he was "going to die" and they were not going to help him. At one point, one of the teen boys can be heard laughing, saying "he dead."

Deriving amusement from a person drowning before your eyes. Those are some cold hearted teens.

The deceased was disabled, right? They're just taking their cue from the president.

Isn't that the final episode of seinfeld?
07-22-2017 , 04:18 PM
Savages. The other day I watched someone get rescued from a wave pool at a water park (I think likely heart attack) and it was an emotional scene. How the **** can those kids live with themselves?

In Seinfeld they got thrown in jail for not helping, though. These creeps aren't being charged.

I heard they weren't getting charged yesterday but saw reports of them pursuing charges now today.

ETA: Yeah ounces I guess but like an eighth ounce is 3.5 grams, quarter oz is 7 grams, etc. My bad.

Waxes and shatter and resins are sold in grams.

We should tread a little carefully here. Obvious this is a pretty horrid look, these kids are clearly crass. But is it criminal? This is already a minor cause celebre for the pro-life movement. They're desperate to get legal precedents and public opinion riled up, demonstrating the legal obligation to be a life bearing vessel against someone's will. They seize on these kinds of cases commonly, that bystanders have all sorts of obligations to protect lives once they're in this kind of situation. The analogy obviously isn't perfect but the difference between those kids and a woman seeking an abortion isn't large enough that this won't have meaning for people. If this is a crime, that's a bit of a dangerous precedent much as we may all feel repulsed by the kids on the video.

I wasn't commenting at all on obligations or criminality or anything like that.

There could be valid reasons not to get involved, but to taunt and take pleasure in the situation is pathetic and vile and inhumane.

I agree on a lot of that. I'm just commenting that the more we veer towards 'toss em in jail and throw away the key,' the more pro life people nod along and then try to take it to the next step and say it's vile and inhumane if a woman doesn't want to carry her baby to term. I don't find the analogy bullet proof but they show up in media, in courts and in legislatures with just these arguments using these 'see, we all agree about the moral obligation to preserve life even if you don't want to, abortion is just special pleading.'

I get what you're saying, especially about the "lock 'em up" comments and possible legal complications, but I think most rational people find a large difference between laughing and taking joy in watching a person drown versus a women choosing to have an abortion, usually after doing a lot of heavy thinking. To me anyway, one is repulsive and inhumane and the other is just kind of a sad circumstance.

The nuts are going to act like nuts. But I'm not going to pretend that those kids are not vile just because some nuts might try (and fail) to twist my logic.

You should try to quit chewing. I did it for fifteen years. No bueno.

As for buying kids snacks cool cool.

I liked the idea of blasting those kids on social media so that everyone they know will know what a giant piece of **** each one of them is, but to think that this moment will not haunt these people for the rest of their lives is short-sighted imo. I'd imagine each time they reflect on their own mortality, the screams and sounds of that man dying will remain clear in their memories until the end of their lives.

Something sort of strange about having a strong moral belief about something, which then makes you feel obligated to be "sympathetic" towards people laughing at someone dying.

(To be clear from the little bit I know, I don't think the kids should be charged either)

Anybody else seeing more flags around lately? Seems to me there is a noticeable increase in visual displays of creepy nationalism totally appropriate patriotism. Pickup trucks with one or more enormous flags flying in the bed are increasingly common, for example.
