Just got the insurance shpeal at work from our agency's friendly Anthem representative. I've got a few questions and comments.

1. First and foremost: This woman was straight creepy.

She's like late 50s, botoxed up, and while talking about life insurance tried to sell me on it by explaining how she was paid "super quick" (snaps her fingers) when her husband died last year. "Took just two weeks!" She said this with a smile and no indication of sadness etc. Like, I was uncomfortable even expressing sorrow for her loss so I just nodded slowly and forced a smile.

She 20 minutes later, while talking about disability insurance, made casual reference to her husband's cancer diagnosis and how, over the course of 2 years, they were getting short term disability payments but that he never stayed out of work for 6 months or longer in one chunk of time, so they didn't qualify for the long term benefits. Again, just showing a little smile, not even averting her gaze.

2. Do these people get commission? I felt like she was selling me on insurance, but thought she was just a salaried employee or something whose job it is is to tell us about the benefits packages offered.

3. Conversation got to a point later when she was talking about the penalties under Obamacare for small businesses not offering health insurance to their employees. She was under the impression it was only slightly less than what it would cost most small businesses to offer insurance, which in turn got me thinking about the giant pieces of s*** who might opt for the penalty to pay $5 less per month to not offer insurance to employees.

Anyone well informed to give a concise explanation of what the penalties look like for small business, and then compare it to what they might pay for some basic insurance packages for their employees under the ACA?

4. It needs to be emphasized how straight scary this woman was when talking, without any change in affect, about her recently deceased husband, and how pleased she was with the rate at which she was paid out. Especially given the later information about the slow, painful way he passed away. WTF?! For more description, she was very tan...almost dried out, if that paints a clear picture, wore what I assume was her husband's wedding ring around her neck, had dyed blonde hair, and teeth which were unnaturally white.

She was probably hitting on you when she told you about her dead husband.

Emperor Obama strikes again

It's going to be a little more difficult to ferret out which members of Congress are lavished with all-expenses-paid trips around the world after the House has quietly stripped away the requirement that such privately sponsored travel be included on lawmakers' annual financial-disclosure forms.

The move, made behind closed doors and without a public announcement by the House Ethics Committee, reverses more than three decades of precedent. Gifts of free travel to lawmakers have appeared on the yearly financial form dating back its creation in the late 1970s, after the Watergate scandal. National Journal uncovered the deleted disclosure requirement when analyzing the most recent batch of yearly filings.

Sounds like she's dealt with her loss in a healthy way and you're being needlessly judgemental.

She kinda sounds like what that Cougar Life "you fold sweaters for a living, honey" woman would be like irl

That would be really weird if she got commission imo.

Is there any reasonable defense for this?

European Court upholds French full veil ban

Quote:
The European Court of Human Rights has upheld a ban by France on wearing the Muslim full-face veil - the niqab.

A case was brought by a 24-year-old French woman, who argued that the ban on wearing the veil in public violated her freedom of religion and expression.

French law says nobody can wear in a public space clothing intended to conceal the face. The penalty for doing so can be a 150-euro fine (£120; $205).
Quote:
A court statement said the ruling also "took into account the state's submission that the face played a significant role in social interaction".

"The Court was also able to understand the view that individuals might not wish to see, in places open to all, practices or attitudes which would fundamentally call into question the possibility of open interpersonal relationships, which, by virtue of an established consensus, formed an indispensable element of community life within the society in question."
What??????

You could go full liberal and say that freedom of religion doesn't give you the right to repress women.
07-01-2014 , 08:34 PM
So you can't use a piece of clothing in public to exclude yourself from being in the public. That's awful in so many ways of course it is already straw-equated with liberools.

The absurdity of going "full liberal" is limited only by ikestoys' imagination!

Quote:
France has about five million Muslims - the largest Muslim minority in Western Europe - but it is thought only about 2,000 women wear full veils.
Quote:
The woman, identified only by the initials SAS, took her case to the European Court in 2011. She said she was under no family pressure to wear the niqab, but chose to do so as a matter of religious freedom, as a devout Muslim.
Full liberal: BAN THEM ALL! rofl

I could mock that ruling all night.

If she can wear her niqab, than I should be able to wear my hockey mask with pantyhose over it.
