It's not just the positions he's staked out; that's just the beginning. It's withstanding an almost universally negative media reaction and turning it to his favor. It's expertly branding his opponents: more than just name calling, but something catchy with the weight of truth behind it, so the shiv really sticks.

Some have said he's been fortunate to run against a brace of fools, but an ancient Chinese man once said something about how if you're a good general you won't get much acclaim because everyone will think your victories were easy and inevitable.

There is no question that Donald Trump is supremely good at trolling his opponents and also pretty decent at selling himself to rubes.

The problem with trolling as your one and mostly only campaign strategy is that it works much better with men than women, whites than minorities, and the Republican primary electorate than everybody else combined.
