is anyone planning on doing anything for MLK Jr. / Service Day? I really don't know what to do so i was thinking about buying a case and picking up garbage on the streets around campus... b/c it needs to be done but id feel dumb doing that if i was sober... does Obama care if were faded while serving our community?

Here's a Media Matters (yes, Media Matters, but it's reasonably well-sourced w/in the article) showing that it looks like that the combined expenditure for Bush's gala + security in 2005 will be roughly comparable to Obama's gala + security expenditure in 2009. Yeah, there's probably some mild "hypocrisy by omission" where some sources that gave Bush a hard time for his 2005 bash aren't saying anything this time around, but it doesn't look like Obama is spending all that much more, and inflation-adjusted, it could be less.
