That's all true and probably fair, but I expect every single potus ever has been a war criminal. Some crimes worse than others, but still

Obama - some of the drone strikes, probably some things at Gitmo, definitely violated war powers resolution in Libya

Bill C - violated war powers resolution in Bosnia, UNICEF estimated sanctions in Iraq caused 350000 extra child deaths.

Bush Sr. - His war for oil was hardly propaganda free, but if you count that one as legal there's still the BS in Panama.

Reagan - Iran/Contra, illegal wars in Central America killed hundreds of thousands

Even Carter - providing weapons to Indonesia during the genocide in East Timor, not a war crime, but atrocious.

Nixon - LDO Cambodia and Laos, coup in Chile

LBJ - Gulf of Tonkin was fake news

Kennedy - started the secret war in Vietnam

Eisenhower - overthrew Iran's democratically elected government

-----

Impeaching everyone who goes to war is fine by me. Reagan was waaaaaaaaay more impeachable than Bush though as far as the lies related to war. What do you impeach Bush for anyway? I guess an investigation would have been good, but as far as I know/recall, Bush is well within any kind of plausible deniability as far as faking WMD info goes. Cheney demanded evidence from the CIA and they pretended weak evidence was good.

In the GHWBush war they kept claiming every truck you could see from a a satellite was a SCUD missile launcher and one of them famously ended up being a milk truck.

War crimes investigations of the torture memo, abu ghraib and gitmo seem more legally valid than propaganda about WMDs.

Trump is more dangerous to America anyway than any other potus.

Not necessarily impeachment, but a candid assessment from an (establishment antitrump R) insider.

Yeah, that should have been 'continued '.

Don't forget Lincoln. Just because he was a nice guy who got every big decision right (including when he violated laws of war during the Civil War) doesn't mean he should escape the (now) frivolous designation. WAR CRIMINALS: moral equivalency for most; miniature Anarchist flags for all!

I do wonder what Justice Jackson would have thought while prosecuting Lincoln and Carter, with a brief Nazi interlude.

Re: *** Impeachment Watch ***

The UN's Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation in East Timor (CAVR) stated in the "Responsibility" chapter of its final report that US "political and military support were fundamental to the Indonesian invasion and occupation" of East Timor between 1975 and 1999. The report (p. 92) also stated that "U.S. supplied weaponry was crucial to Indonesia's capacity to intensify military operations from 1977 in its massive campaigns to destroy the Resistance in which aircraft supplied by the United States played a crucial role."[77][78]

Clinton Administration officials told the New York Times that US support for Suharto was "driven by a potent mix of power politics and emerging markets." Suharto was Washington's favoured ruler of the "ultimate emerging market" who deregulated the economy and opened Indonesia to foreign investors. "He's our kind of guy," said a senior Administration official who dealt often on Asian policy.[79]

Philip Liechty, a senior CIA officer in Indonesia, stated: "I saw intelligence that came from hard, firm sources in East Timor. There were people being herded into school buildings and set on fire. There were people herded into fields and machine-gunned. ... We knew the place was a free-fire zone and that Suharto was given the green light by the United States to do what he did. We sent the Indonesian generals everything that you need to fight a major war against somebody who doesn't have any guns. We sent them rifles, ammunition, mortars, grenades, food, helicopters. You name it; they got it. ... None of that got out in the media. No one gave a damn. It is something that I will be forever ashamed of. The only justification I ever heard for what we were doing was the concern that East Timor was on the verge of being accepted as a new member of the United Nations and there was a chance that the country was going to be either leftist or neutralist and not likely to vote [with the United States] at the UN.[80]

How certain are you that GWB was aware of false pretenses as opposed to being given bad intel and acting on it?

He may have believed what he wanted to believe but that's little excuse for believing the intel his administration shopped for. Regular Americans at the time should have been skeptical and many were. GWBs best defense of the invasion of Iraq is that Hussein was horrible and that we could possibly end up on the side of the good guys and acting in the interests of average Iraqis. Trump gives up even that and straight up says we should take the oil.

Compare that to East Timor. On the one hand it wasn't our troops firing the guns, so that makes us less responsible for the murder of hundreds of thousands of people. I would argue it's not nearly as big a distinction as it might seem since we explicitly approved the Indonesian invasion and gifted the weapons. But, there's no argument that we were on the right side. It was a ruthless dictatorship murdering helpless people, some of whom were not far removed from the stone age.

And Carter is #1 or #2 best potus in my lifetime.

I don't think so ... Trump's ego is so overinflated that he probably thinks he can beat this rap. Trump most likely can't stand the thought of being unfavorably compared to Richard Nixon and Watergate. Resigning in disgrace would be equivalent to admitting he's a crook. Trump knows that Bill Clinton beat an impeachment trial in the Senate, so he's probably convinced doing likewise is a piece of cake. If the FBI and Senate investigators dig up real dirt on Trump, this is likely to get very ugly ... the Donald will go down swinging.

Flynn's plea for immunity is a very clever ploy on the part of his lawyers. They're hoping that either the Senate Intelligence Committee (or the House Intelligence Committee) will grant Flynn immunity and subpoena him to testify. Once he has a [congressional] immunity grant, his lawyers will instruct him to raise his right hand, swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, and admit to every possible crime he committed - or even thought about committing. He cannot be prosecuted for anything he admits to under a grant of immunity. That's how Oliver North managed to avoid going to jail in the Iran-Contra scandal back in the 1980's.

Whether or not the two Republican chairs, (i.e. Senator Burr and Representative Nunes), want Flynn to testify is the $64,000.00 question ...

Re: *** Impeachment Watch ***

It's funny. I was going to make a thread called "ITT We Outline Scenarios That Get Donald Trump Impeached". Given that I thought it would never happen, I figured that it would lead to some humorous scenarios being created by us.

Now that the possibility has increased, I'm not so sure. I suppose if this ends up cycling out of the news without consequences for Trump, I'll create it if nobody else does.

""This is about my position. This is about what I believe. And this is where I stand. I will not be moved. The President must be impeached," Green said on the floor. "For those who do not know, impeachment does not mean that the President would be found guilty. It simply means that the House of Representatives will bring charges against the President. It's similar to an indictment but not quite the same thing."

the first headline i heard on the radio is that Mueller gets 60 days merely to propose a budget for this investigation. This is going to take some time. Rachel is going into depth right now about details.
