There is zero chance America "goes into" Iran (and fwiw i think thats true under Republicans as well as Obama). I think a bombing campaign not too dissimilar to Libya isnt entirely off the table, but Obama made some recent speech saying he wont go to war with Iran if Israel does or something along those lines (which is his separator from Republicans imo).

Its impossible to say what is happening covertly of course, someone is in Iran killing scientists, creating that mega worm that attacked Iranian centrifuges and so on, but all the overt messages is he has no interest in having his own Iraq and his handling of Libya is the perfect example of that.

I certainly hope that is the worst case scenario. Pulling out of Iraq just to move straight into Iran would be a nightmare.

I don't think the analogy of Libya is the appropriate one. That was a minor operation providing air support for the "rebels" (or a better term for the good guys ). I think the first Gulf War air campaign is a better comparison if our response is to being attacked or the straits being blocked. Iran's military is orders of magnitude more significant than Libya's.

Oh sure, no disagreement, i meant like Libya in terms of approach avoiding putting Americans in harms way but an Iran operation would be an order of magnitude up the scale.

Thread title is silly imo. It takes serious balls to drone rescuers and funerals, assert that you have the right to indefinately detain American citizens, etc. and still be willing to show your face in public.

Phil, I think if any type of attack happens on Iran, Iran will retaliate either directly or indirectly and that will cause things to spiral out of control quite quickly. Hence Obama going so far as to tell Bibi, if you act on your own... "u can go **** yourself" in an election year. Even that I think might be a bluff on Barack's part.
