This sh*t is just stupid. Go find some real a-holes to arrest

Quote:
AN 18-YEAR-OLD RECENTLYarrested on terrorism charges in Arizona has the mental capacity of a child and had been in regular contact with the FBI for years before his arrest, according to family members, former teachers, and medical documents reviewed by The Intercept. Mahin Khan was arrested July 1 on charges of plotting to support the Taliban as well as the militant group the Islamic State and commit acts of terrorism in the local community.

People close to Khan say that he suffered from serious mental and emotional illnesses and that the FBI was aware of this, having met with him regularly since he was a young teenager. According to medical records and statements from family members, he was first referred to the FBI after sending a threatening email to one of his teachers at the age of 15. After an initial meeting with the FBI, he spent 45 days at an inpatient psychiatric facility for evaluation. His family says this stay at the facility was coordinated with FBI officials. Agents reportedly continued to meet with Khan regularly after he returned home and continued to do so up until the time of his arrest.

Guy puts a confederate flag over the windshield of his own car while parked in his own driveway and people get pissed, wondering if this was an example of free speech gone too far (?!).

Imagine if they moved to where I live and found that the most famous area downtown is multiple city blocks dedicated to memorializing the confederacy with museums, enormous statues of infamous confederate characters and confederate flags lining the streets.

Nice story from the Refugee Olympic Team, Yusra Mardini. She's a Syrian refugee who got on a boat from Turkey to Greece and after the motor died, her and a few other people skilled at swimming jumped into the water and pushed the boat to a Greek island. She's now competing as a swimmer and I think is captaining the IOC refugee team. I saw her on TV and she speaks very good English, is eloquent and likeable.

Richmond is a weird ****ing place. I was there for a conference last year and they held a dinner theater thing that was just an hour of actors showing how actually the slaveholders and confederate soldiers weren't all that bad.

I just attended my nieces wedding here. 300 attendees, all white except my wife (hispanic) and a woman from India. Was held at a former plantation and I'm pretty sure every caterer / musician / etc was black. Was extremely uncomfortable.

i'm sure in 50 years, oklahoma will start naming streets after the heroic Timothy McVeigh for his standing up to the tyranny of a federal gov't.

Well since he can probably legally buy an AR-15, 1000 rounds of ammo and several high-capacity magazines in a matter of minutes with no ID - then walk down the street with it on his back - seems like we need to take this **** seriously.

At first, I was like who cares about this lady's purse? But it's awesome that this kid is 'extremely pedantic' about his dinosaurs.

Quote:
A blue, dinosaur-printed pouch, carried by Ho Ching, the wife of Singapore's PM on a state visit to the White House, has stolen the limelight.

Priced at just $11 (£8), the pouch was designed by a Singaporean student at Pathlight, the country's first autism-focused school.
.
.
Initially, Ms Ho's choice of accessories was met with some criticism online.
But, once it was discovered to have been designed by 19-year-old Seetoh Sheng Jie of Pathlight, sales of the pouch jumped.
.
.
"[She] really could have chose something, well, more cheery," Dr Siew Tuck Wah, an aesthetics doctor said on Facebook. "We need to get a stylist for her please."
.
.
The Pathlight website describes Mr Seetoh as being "extremely pedantic about dinosaurs", with the illustrations drawn from his personal knowledge. Mr Seetoh was "happy" to find out about the incident, according to his father Mr Jason Seetoh.

Careful what you read on the plane peeps, especially if your skin is of a certain tone....

British woman held after being seen reading book about Syria on plane

Faizah Shaheen, a psychotherapist in Leeds, was detained by police at Doncaster airport on 25 July, on her return from her honeymoon in Turkey. A Thomson Airways cabin-crew member had reported Shaheen on her outbound flight two weeks earlier, as she was reading the title Syria Speaks: Art and Culture from the Frontline.

Fairly standard for some of today's left to feel entitled to be violent if someone else hurts your feelings. Luckily most of the lefties understand that is criminal behavior.

So apparently ban-the-box laws (which prohibit employers asking about criminal history), which you all thought were amazing after John Oliver talked about them, are terrible for black/Latino employment for totally obvious economic reasons. Oops!

Quote:
In a recent paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research, Jennifer L. Doleac of the University of Virginia's Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and Benjamin Hansen of the University of Oregon looked at how the implementation of ban-the-box policies affected the probability of employment for young, low-skilled, black and Hispanic men. They found that ban-the-box policies decreased the probability of being employed by 5.1 percent for young, low-skilled black men, and 2.9 percent for young, low-skilled Hispanic men.

That’s because, they say, when employers cannot access an applicant’s criminal history, they instead discriminate more broadly against demographic groups that are more likely to have a criminal record.

...

And in a separate paper, Starr used CPS data from between 2004 and 2014 to measure how banning the box affected government employment rates. Her results also suggest that black men ages 18 to 64 were hurt by these policies. Overall, their study found that before ban the box, white applicants were called back slightly more often than black applicants were; after ban the box, white applicants were called back six times more often than black applicants were. White ex-offenders were actually helped by the rule, they found, possibly because employers assumed white applicants were unlikely to have criminal histories.

Yeah I posted about that a few months ago . Although lol at saying economic reasons and not racism
08-04-2016 , 05:32 PM
Did employers get way more racist at the exact same time this law was passed?

Does anyone remember the name of that ginger who made a deep run at the WSOP a few years ago - who would wear a wife-beater and show off his hairy orange pit forests to the whole table? I think he got beat with a royal over AAAA or something ridiculous. Or he might have had the Royal.
08-04-2016 , 06:49 PM
beat with a royal? that's tough to do
08-04-2016 , 06:56 PM

You pesky Republicans, your new Jim Crow laws (mass incarceration) have worked so damn well they are now completely part of the system! Pat yourselves on the back for a job well done.
08-04-2016 , 06:58 PM
Found him! Pits less hairy than I remember. Still everyone at the table had to be like WTF dude?

08-04-2016 , 07:00 PM
Every hint of SJW in me dies the moment I see dudes in wifebeaters out in public in non gym contexts. That's some trash assed bull****.
