No one is asking to "turn back time," there is no need for a well armed militia to have weapons significantly more advanced than when the 2A was written. Single shot weapons were good enough then, they are good enough now. Let the police and military have more advanced weapons, **** if you can make a good enough case that you survive via your long rifle we'll let you have a semi-auto hunting rifle.

The whole debate is quite a bit through the looking glass. Inso says we can't turn back the clock on technology, but the NRA has been lobbying against technological advances in guns for years and very successfully.

Who do you think civilians are going to be fighting? If it's a government then it doesn't matter what the law is they are already out gunned and will forever be outgunned. If it's better armed criminals then that's just the price of freedom until we can get the illegal weapons off the street, although I'm hopeful buy back programs will get a lot of them. ****, if the Koch brothers spent as much on a gun buy back program as they spent ****ing with our politics we'd be halfway there already.

Even if I concede that you'd be able to get all the semi-auto guns off the street, which you won't, that isn't going to stop violent/crazy people from committing violence.

There are more guns in Australia today than there were before the Port Arthur massacre. Population is higher, sure, but it's not like all the guns went away.

It's almost like the US population cannot be compared apples-to-apples with places like AUS and Scandinavian countries, which libs are always quick to do on the interwebs. There are more factors at play than simply access to firearms.

I'm not trying to stop violence, I'm trying to limit the damage done by gun violence. Large magazine, semi-automatic military fetish firearms are not necessary to any society. The idea that there can be no limits on guns whatsoever is ridiculous and is the attitude that needs changing.

45+ homicides so far in Milwaukee this year. None of them involved "military fetish" firearms. Almost 300 in Chicago, but no idea on weaponry breakdown.

You're trying to limit the violence done by guys like Adam Lanza, but sick people like that aren't going to let your silly regulations get in the way of maximum carnage. Blaming that tragedy on 30 round magazines is just ridiculous. Now consider what happens when you eliminate a crazy person's ability to roll up with ten 30-round magazines and he decides to consult the internet for more creative solutions to killing large numbers of people?
