I haven't checked the polling but this sounds almost impossible if there are no catastrophic events against Obama.

I just went by margin of victory in 2008. Figured those are the ones that will be easiest to flip.

McCain 2008 states + the states: IN, NC, FL, OH which were within <5%.

Next tier (margin between 5% and 10%) you have VA, CO, IA, NH and PA in that order. I figured VA (next closest margin of victory) and NH (RMoney's NE ties).

And there you go. 270 Romney vs. 268 Obama.

I suspect its close... I just hope its not another Gore v Bush.
I think Obama will pretty much crush the popular vote scooping something like 3:2, 55:45 at worst, but the electoral college will probably be really close. People are really underestimating the election warmachine Obama has been building behind the scenes, the idea that he doesnt have a positive record and message to run on and that Rmoney will only get more popular as time goes on. Obama's personal popularity is huge and his professional popularity is a known quantity. Rmoney has barely been scratched in this primary and even then he struggled to inspire voters and dodge attacks on his past history.

That youtube vid yesterday was a jokey summing up that we arent even rolling yet and the "i like to fire people", "magic underwear" and "my dog is on the roof" are messages that are resonating in people. Obama wont go there on the last two of course but "i like to fire people" is a really really terrible quote to be remembered in a down economy with unemployment likely being the number one issue for voters.

End of the day Rmoney reminds people of the rich douche in the corner office who made them redundant a couple years ago and then got a six figure bonus that same year.

You are out of your mind if you think Obama can win the popular vote 3:2, ie: 60-40. His ceiling is his 52.9% in 2008.

Yeah, my bad, i thought he completely crushed the popular vote against McCain for some reason. Ignore that.

Re: And Here. We. Go. 2012 Presidential Election: Obama v. Romney

at the end of the day, people do not remember your track record or the past at all. They vote for who they personally like more. You must be on some good cocaine if you think Romney has any chance of woo-ing a crowd when he is together with Obama.

The only way it has a change of going his way is if he has a "Game Changing" running mate, like Marco Rubio or Chris Christie. If you look at these guys speak they both resinate very well. Rubio as a cool brother type of guy, and Christie as a straight talking non-bull politician that is ready to work. Both of them will get Romney votes, but Romney himself is just so unlikeable compared to Obama.

I hope that the race is close enough that Obama is pushed to the right and needs to make the debt/deficit reduction a significant part of his platform. If this happens I will consider it a win for America.

I'd say that a 7% spread is pretty decent in a presidential race with no real third parties.

Re: And Here. We. Go. 2012 Presidential Election: Obama v. Romney

Also, Romney will be up against all the Democrat Heavy Hitters. He will have Bill Clinton (the master of modern politics), Al Gore, Hilary Clinton (who is having her highest approval ratings since the late 90's), going a against him. Who can he counter with George Bush and Sara Palin

Spoiler:

You do realize that platforms mean nothing when you are an incumbent. Once you get reelect him, you no longer have authority over him.

He will most likely have a Republican controlled congress and he will need to try to enact the platform he runs on. I reject your assertion that after the election the President is no longer accountable to the electorate.

I don't think libertarian means what you think it means. That should read "as a totalitarian-leaning guy"
