Hmm screw positions...think I'm gonna vote for Obama simply cuz he seems cool, he's black, and he used to get super baked in high school and college. He's also a pussy and a corporate stooge but whatever...dude can't be perfect.

Mitt Romney is a rich, slightly weird stiff, but a super successful one.
He's also a devout Mormon which is a very strange religionq. Only lamer religion is Scientology.

Obama supporting an equal pay bill in congress? that's awful, govt wage controls are pretty much always a bad idea.

From wiki:
Quote:
A 2007 Consad Research Corporation study prepared for the Department of Labor cautioned against misinterpretation of census and other wage data, suggesting that the wage gap between the sexes was not due to systematic discrimination:

Although additional research in this area is clearly needed, this study leads to the unambiguous conclusion that the differences in the compensation of men and women are the result of a multitude of factors and that the raw wage gap should not be used as the basis to justify corrective action. Indeed, there may be nothing to correct. The differences in raw wages may be almost entirely the result of the individual choices being made by both male and female workers
So, yea, this bill sucks as expected. Women make less because they put less value on salary when considering different positions. How dare they value having a shorter a commute, better benefits, or a more flexible schedule! Obviously the Democrats need to get involved and set those women straight.

There's other evidence to contradict the study you cite as well as criticism of that study.

For starters, right out of the gate, before women make any choices about family and such, they are already lower paid.

But... I really just wanted to address the study:
http://www.amptoons.com/blog/2010/11...-measuring-it/

Quote:
1) Typically, neither Robert or Ballgame mentioned that CONSAD used a radically different sample of workers than virtually all other wage gap studies. I don’t think either of them were being deliberately dishonest; rather, I suspect they both lack basic knowledge of what they’re talking about.

The standard wage gap figure only includes full-time, year-round workers,b but CONSAD included part-time (and, I suspect, short-term) workers, which means it’s looking at a significantly different population. So Ballgame’s comparison of CONSAD’s results to a standard figure from Newsweek is apples and oranges — or, as Ballgame puts it, “misusing statistics.”
Quote:
2) The single largest factor that CONSAD found “explained” the wage gap is the difference in hours worked. Since women are more likely to work part-time, and since CONSAD (unlike standard wage gap studies) included part-time workers in their sample, in effect CONSAD is comparing mostly female part-time workers to mostly male full-time workers. Then — what a surprise! — they determined that the difference in hours worked accounts for a huge portion of the wage gap they measured.
There's much more in the article.

As a male whose been working for 20 years, I can say that much of what the article speaks of, I can see. For instance, women are less likely to be hired at the upper echelons.

This being said... I'm not saying I'm looking for some big government solution. Just stating that I do believe a gender gap exists. I should also state that in the 20+ years I've been working, I see it becoming better. Baby steps.

Pretty amazing that Romney actually had mittromney@hotmail.com as his e-mail address. I can't even register my own name there. Not that I want to because I have my own domain name, which I expected Romney to have too...

Re: And Here. We. Go. 2012 Presidential Election: Obama v. Romney

I'm considering Gary Johnson. I feel Johnson>Obama>Romney.

Want to vote for Johnson but worry about the scenario where a vote for Johnson leads to a Romney victory which to me is the worst case scenario.

I don't know if Johnson draws more voters one side or the other. Though I agree with what he said on the Daily Show the other night... that the platform has many more fans then voters and they thereotically should get more votes then they do.

I suspect many share my dilemma- they actually would like the Libertarian candidate to win but assume he has no real chance in hell so vote to block the candidate we like the least.

I bet if people even thought it really was a three way race then more people would vote for them. Or, if it was possible to have an election where you vote for your top 2 (essentially voting against the one person you don't want... I forget what that kind of election is called.)

then lol at being concerned if your vote will cause Romney to win. If Connecticut is remotely close, Obama has lost in a landslide. Vote Johnson.
