The stats vary from 3.5M/yr to 120k a year.

US Census Bureau survey says 600k/year.

Assault rifles are already illegal.

What the smart and logical 41% are against (in what was most likely a skewed and biased poll) is just blindly labeling anything an "assault rifle" based on looks as opposed to capabilities.

illegal? they are not illegal. if by that you mean fully auto weapons they're also legal, you just need a special permit and super clean background. you can legally own a minigun in the us. yes, you heard that right, a ****ING MINIGUN. there are no guns that are illegal in the us, some just require special permits.

Wheres the link for where we can purchase a fully auto mini- gun with a special permit?? Not the airsoft mini guns!!!

And Im talking the ones the U.S Marines use, (I do not believe Modern day mini guns are legal in any regards for U.S.A civilians) they fire like 2k-6k rounds a minute

I thought only semi-automatic rifles ( also the 3 round bursts) are legal with a special permit, and all fully automatic rifles are illegal??

In other words did the assualt weopens ban that was in place from 1994- 2004 include fully automatic rifles??

Here's one that was available for public purchase a few years ago.

Semi-automatic rifles don't require a permit unless, perhaps you live in a nanny state. Three round burst is like full-auto fire and requires an NFA stamp to own I believe.

IIRC, the Federal Assault Weapons ban did not affect rifles based on full or semi-auto capability, it just banned certain weapons based on what are basically cosmetic features. I'm sure you can read the Wiki to get the full details.

Re: The gun control debate

The Clinton assault weapons ban didn't cover fully auto arms at all, only semi-auto, because of the NFA status of full auto guns.

You make it sound so easy to get a machine gun. It's not. You need to get the stamp. But, more importantly, you need to get a gun. Finding a machine gun is difficult.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa..._for_NFA_items, the domestic manufacture of machine guns after 1986 was banned. You can still buy machine guns made before 1986, but they are very expensive.

Saw this earlier, planned to correct it when I got back to my desk.

Thx.

Re: The gun control debate

I'm not overly worried about people owning things like miniguns and 50 cal rifles. These aren't the weapons of choice for ppl who want to knock off liquor stores or kill people in movie theaters.

i didn't say it was easy. i was correcting the guy saying assault rifles are illegal. maybe he meant fully auto , which is still false. NO GUN is illegal to own in the us. yes , the minigun would cost you a small fortune (if you can find it) and would require a full rectal exam from the feds but at the end of the day it is legal to own it.

the main point of this is that it shows the us attitude towards guns. if you can legally own a mother****ing minigun then a semi AK is like a squirt gun. you can buy an AK when you're 18 but you have to wait 3 more years to buy a beer. how can anyone expect reason and logic in a country where only 15% of people believe in evolution?
