Reagan cultist here. On election day 11/80 vs 11/88:

inflation:

11/80 = 12.65%

11/88 = 4.25%

unemployment:

11/80 = 7.5%

11/88 = 5.3%

30 yr mortgage rates:

11/80 = 15.47%

11/88 = 9.11%

Did any of you guys actually live through the late 70's and 80's? I'm guessing your statist "educators" left out a few salient factoids like these, eh?

Ever try to qualify for a mortgage with the rates >15% ? Facts are damn nasty things.

Yeah, Reagan spent a bunch of money to prop up the economy. Well done, I guess.

Just let me know when the current GOP starts approving Reagan's actual actions and policies instead of just the man.

Of course, nice goal post shift. The current R party isn't part of this thread.

Pretty interesting macroeconomic theory how spending a bunch of money slaughters inflation and lowers interest rates. I think you could write an econ text about that.

i think in all of history, there has only been 1 real pole that had carter over reagan

I'm more of a libertarian, and I was born in the early 80s so I don't have much useful firsthand of the two, but from everything I've read about them, I would choose Carter. Not that he was anything special.

I missed this one, but I would have sucked it up and voted for Reagan, even though I pretty much despised him. Carter couldn't lead a marching band down a straight, short street.
